Gus Johnson has been named the new voice of Fox Soccer.
His first match for the TV network will be the Madrid-ManUtd CL match, followed by Arsenal-Bayern Munich

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20130205/gus-johnson-world-cup-fox/
http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/february/gus-johnson-will-be-the-voice-of-fox-s-world-cup-coverage.html

Thank god this disaster of a network is losing their EPL rights
...Still though, 2018 and 2022 WC's

Granted, 5 years is still a long time, so he has room to improve... but I still think this is a moronic idea, really

Here's some video of Johnson commentating a San Jose game, where he is being broken in:

The only matches I get are EPL, BL, and UEFA CL. It is a joke, I pay 40 dollars a month and no Serie A and no La Liga

I pay around 5 bucks a month for my Bein sport and I might as well go ahead and cancel my gol tv (about 5-6 bucks a month) as they only air Bundesliga and I cannot really afford to keep both channels. I get volleyball through Bein sport and they were even airing some handball games the other week.

I wont lie I would have paid more for all EPL games and CL.

I save money, before I used to go to bars a lot and spend 50-80 dollars on drinks and food.

In Alberta, I am with SHAW Cable, they don't offer anything by Sportsnet World and GolTV(which only airs Bundes and Rugby) I am always too lazy to call and cancel Gol because I really don't watch much Bundi.

Every single game, and the games are always there for you to watch it later if you miss them. You click on the games and you can split the screen and watch up 4 games a time. I am watching the Liverpool vs City game since I missed most of the first half.

CL games I would put on 4 games and you can watch only one with volume when you have 4 games playing at the same time.

I just tried it today more than one person can log in to your account and watch the games.

Here are some videos of Johnson commentating other sports:

The thing is, he's not a terrible commentator, its just that like (seemingly) all American commentators, he sometimes tries to turn the mediocre into the earth-shattering...A regular season game between two NFL bottom-feeders is not the proper situation for an Al Michaels "Miracle on Ice" type call, etc..

In genuinely dramatic moments he is a pretty good commentator, thats why everyone loves him for the NCAA Tournament...Since its single-elimination, every single game is crucial, and his tone of voice and style mesh very well with that

My worry with him is that were going to see the same old nonsense we've seen from years from Fox Soccer: "RELEASE THE KRAKEN" type garbage.... Its 1-0 in a meaningless friendly in July bro not the damn world cup final shut the f*ck up and chill

As long as he can avoid the problems of other American commentators:
1) Feeling the need to fill every single second of air-time with noise
2) Getting all excited and crazy when its not called for at all
3) Talking out his ass / mispronunciation / lack of understanding

In my experience, you gotta grow up with the game to be able to commentate on the game, so I'm definitely worried about this - However, he definitely seems willing to learn, so hopefully he can make this work
