Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
Since you are very much into 100m at athletics, which is harder to run on grass on on the track?tuddor wrote:still we can't trust the graphic... Maybe he started at 77:40.0 and ended in 77:50.9 ... And when he started running he was already in movement, and he gain speed faster... It's not like in the 100 m athletics.. I'm very much into 100m at athletics and trust me ronaldo is no where near 10 seconds on a 96 m distance... Probably around 11.5-12 per 100 m starting from the ground.. We can't say if Ronaldo is faster than walcott, lennon, giovinco, messi, yaya toure etc, only if we put them on the track

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
Read the thread Crim
No one says he's not ridiculously fast, he is, but there are various factors against him:
- He was already in movement before he started sprinting, ie, not a very good way to measure a 100m sprint, in a race he'd be disqualified for cheating.
- There is no way to accurately calculate the distance traveled.
- The time measurement is inaccurate. The number could be anywhere from 10 to 10.9. When trying to decide who is the fastest in the world, those small differences matter. Canniggia could run 100m in 10.5 seconds. Is he faster than Ronaldo? We can't know from that video, even ignoring everything else.
So yeah it's very fast, but we can't go from "Hey guys look at how fast Ronaldo ran the entire pitch" to "ZOMG fastest in the world!"
Also, Theo probably has at least half a second on him in the 100m race.
@Abra: if you go ad hominem then you already lost

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
That's true. I do think ronaldo is like I said incredibly fast but there are faster players still such as walcott, maybe lennon and bale, and probably a couple I'm missing as well.

But are we actually praising a professional athlete's ability to run the length of a football field without the ball?
Seems silly
If he spent his time aimlessly sprinting around (any player for that matter) we wouldn't praise them, we would call them a headless chicken
It is incredibly fast but apart from that, there isn't exactly anything jaw dropping about an elite athlete pulling this off

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
Wait, somebody from planet earth is claiming that a footballer ran 96 m in 9.8 s, in non straight line, in football gear, on the grass?

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
Less than 100m in about 10 seconds? Pretty sure most footballers who are considered pacey can do it. We had a thread on top speed of footballers a while back and everyone threw in the stats from their league they could find.
Turned out that a lot of players where a lot faster than you'd think, the real question is whether they're still that fast while dribbling, and how their acceleration is.

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
So judging from the video posted by Se7en Ronaldo ran this 95 odd metres in 11s not the 10 claimed. The timer stopped on 10sand flies off instead of ticking over to 11s before Ronaldo touched the ball to make it more special....
10s and 11s is a big difference lol still very fast though...

Re: Ronaldo fastest man in football?
people who claim that Ronaldo ran 96 m in football shoes on grass in the 77 th minute, not in straight line and dropped his arms with distance left are so ridiculous...
This means he can easily defeat Bolt when he's rested and with some training on the track.
Below you have an example how the graphic can cheat you: Press space when lemaitre is on the finish line... The timer is 9.4 which is probably impossible for a human being in 2012. The timer showed on the screen is not accurate at all, because his result was 9,92.
