Old style Italian center forward: Pazzini
Pazzini is the quintessential Italian "centravanti". Like Altobelli, Riva, Boninsegna, Rossi, Meazza etc. Unlike more recent stars like Toni, Vieri etc. The classic Italian is not small but neither big and lumbering. Inzaghi lacks the speed and physical strength of the classic Italian center-forward. Although undoubtedly a great goal scorer. The classic Italian centravanti has to be very strong, excellent at heading the ball in acrobatic fashion as well as having superior ball handling skills. I am happy that this type of player, which is a classic Italian role is coming back. What little I've seen of Matri seems to put in the same class.

You mean a balance of Technique, Offensive Prowess, and Physical Strength?
Iaguinta, Di Natale, and Quagiarella fit that bill, imo. Quags has the best balance out of the 3.

Don't know about Iaquinta, but Di Natale and Quagliarella are the classic type of Italian centravanti. But Pazzini is closer to the ideal in my opinion.

But both not classic Italian centerforwards. Big, very good but not our classic style of centravanti.

In some way, Matri in facts matches up to Vieri's characteristics.

Pazzini is more of the Silvio Piola mould than the Meazza mould.

Re: Old style Italian center forward: Pazzini
Wiggles praise for Pazzo is nothing impressive given only veteran watchers of him will know what a genius in the box he is. His Inter form didn't concern me the least bit as I knew right when he will be under the magical care of Milan and Max Allegri, that he would rediscover his talent. Now he averages a goal per every 2 games for us with 17 goals and mostly from the bench and more than half of them match saving goals.
One of the best in the air. One of the most intelligent strikers. What he lacks in profligacy he makes up for his clutch talent and his intelligent movement opening up spaces.
Hardly moves inches yet scores the simplest goals. Love him.
Also is the coolest guy on our team by far. Oozes that non-nonchalant attitude

Iaquinta really fits the bill, he was really good as an impact forward.

Iaquinta was the complete opposite of an classic Italian forward. He worked hard, kept on running, yet didn't have the classic movement of instinct that guys like Pazzo have to which has him do so little effort yet produce an excellent conversation rate.
Pazzo defines it.

Yeah, I agree with you here Arq. Not Iaquinta at all. Closer to Matri except Pazzini is definitely better right now (and I think overall).

Classic Italian centre forward? You mean a slow player who can only score from headers. No thanks, Italy has had much better strikers with so much more tricks in their bag.
PS: The fact that two overrated, big game flops like Pazzini and Matri are mentioned as classic centravantis speaks in volume for this analogy

This
And now the start of the over hyping of Pazzini... he doesn't contribute in any way or how to the build up and only scores from tap ins for milan. They can't use his great heading ability because they have no one to cross properly from open play(the person who is the best in their squad is on the bench more often than not)

Inter fan butthurt because they didn't get the best out of a guy with a box of nutella hidden in his locker and the lungs of a 49 year old smoker

Re: Old style Italian center forward: Pazzini
Sorry but that Cassano-Pazzini deal was all in Inter's favour. Cassano is a gem while Pazzini is average. If only Cassano was more professional he would have been one of the GOAT.
