I think he's right, not to discredit Pepe but maybe some Madrid fans can educate me on him prior to Mourinho?

Chiellini has been the standout defender of an absolute shambolic back line with Juventus until last season

Fair enough, considering he fits the system for Juventus instead of Pepe. Take him out of his comfortzone and hell become an liability. Hed flop in la liga if he would have played there.

Both prone to brain farts, that said Chiellini is better.

I can understand if your comparing his Madrid career under Mou but apart from Mous time at Madrid, Pepe has been pretty ordinary IMO. Chellini apart from last season has probably been the best Juv and Italian defender for a long time now...

We can only reasonably discuss where he actually plays and that is Juventus

That being said I think Pepe would fit in Italy quite well

Yeah but no other top defender being mentioned has the chance to play Messi 4 times per year or even more. It's simple mathematics that he has stopped him more than other defenders being mentioned.

Anti-Messi? How many goals on average do Barca score against Madrid? About 2 right? Conceding 2 goals is not shutting someone down. And the best performances ive ever seen against Messi were by Schweinsteiger (Germany-Argentina in WC) and Nesta (Milan-Barca last year). Even though Milan also conceded two goals in that gamw, Nestas performance was still better. Others have also had better performances against Messi. And Pepe gets to play Messi multiple times each uear so he also has an advantage.

thiago silva played against messi 4 times last season, and he was not effective at stopping messi at all,

i said anti messi lol your comment is about barcelona, and messi doesnt score all goals of barca on madrid.... one vs. one, pepe has won countless challenges against messi, im not saying messi never goes through him, BUT pepe is the only player in the world, who has been able to do what Vidic, T. Silva failed to do

Pepe has had many more chances, and sometimes even plays as a sweeper with two more CBs behind him.to back him up while he man marks Messi, and still Real allow 2 goals against Barca almost every time, which pretty much all go through Messi. Real not too long ago even allowed 5 goals against Barca. Pepe was playing. I guess you just forget about that? Chiellini and Silva are both definitely better than Pepe. No doubt about it.

Messi owned Vidic that's true, but Thiago Silva?Barca faced Milan 4 times last season and I cant remember Thiago making a mistake or letting Messi dribble past him, correct me if i'm wrong.

Also, I was just remembering this ridiculous Pepe fail on barca's first goal of the last classico after sunday's game( in which Pepe also failed).anti messi lulz

Actually, Nesta focussed on Messi. Messi and Silva didnt really come in too much contact except when Nesta would rarely need help. But a mid 30's Nesta still did better against Messithan Pepe. But Pepe is the "anti-Messi"? Ha. Thats a jojke.

Yeah Nesta was better.

Milan played 4 times against Barca, silva wasn't available for 1 or 2 of those games and the game he did play him and Nesta dealt with Messi well and silva even popped up and scored from a corner although that's irrelevant.

Easily double figures, and when I watch it Messi often gets past Pepe only to be fouled. That's hardly dealing with Messi. Anybody on this forum could step on his hand and pull him down to the floor.
