RealGunner wrote:He will go down in the same tier as Guti. Talent is obviously there but never consistent enough. It's not an age thing either. Just mentality.
RG, Guti was pure talent from a brimstone of forged talent itself. His problem was attitude of inconsistent order. Luiz has a problem with lapses yet it delves further into his lack of intelligence and learning the basics of defence 1-0-1. He has handy skill for a CB yet is exposed in the midfield and final third to which he shows his limits. Latter point is not something I blame him for; yet it cannot be compared to Guti who performed when he truly wanted and was capable of multiple propensities footballers can't even dream of.

DAT Guti throughball in 09/10 in the Bernabeu Clasico. The transvestite knew how to manipulate the ball for sure.

1. T. Silva can make Sergio Ramos look like a proper defender.
2. Brazil are playing charity matches the past 2 years. They'll get exposed soon enough in a real competition.

I know Spain isn't what it used to be (having to shop around for a proper CF and all) but I wouldn't call a final against them a "charity match".

Re: David Luiz
Of course it was a charity match. As if del Bosque would throw the likes of Mata and Torres into the starting lineup in a meaningful game and on top of that play with 1 defensive pivot. It was a learning experience in many ways. Arbeloa is not up to par and will lose his starting spot. Mata won't get into the actual World Cup squad. Double pivot is a necessity. And Costa will be the #1 striker.
Can't believe Brazil fans are celebrating a charity competition like that. Haven't the USA kicked Spain out 2-0 in 2009 in the same competition?
Ganso: We played each other in a friendly about 2 years ago but who cares? Friendlies and a World Cup are different dimensions. I just don't rate this Brazil team that highly. Sorry.

this is not directed at you Fußball , but i love how the general consensus piror to the confederations cup was " del bosque should switch to 4-3-3 !! alonso is washed up and doesn't suit the style of the team !! just let the barça midfield do their job "
but now everyone sees how important the double pivot actually is .

Re: David Luiz
That's your argument? That Spain didn't take the final of an international tournament seriously? Of course the Confed Cup is nowhere near the WC in terms of prestige and importance but you seriously believe that Del Bosque was just dicking around enjoying a night at the Maracana and not doing his best to win?
Maybe that wasn't Spain's best side. Who know? But they were still a pretty good side and David Luiz did really well against them. Which was my entire point to begin with. That he plays well for us and shitty for Chelsea. It's not like Chelsea play against Bayern every week. They play plenty of mediocre at best Premiership sides and Luiz acts like a headless chicken against them.

He was a beast last season for us, this season Cahill and Terry have been as good as you can ask for.
Here is Rafa comments on him back in September
"‘I was coaching him and I can tell you he’s one of the best in the world, because he has everything. You just have to manage him properly - and then he is one of the best in the world. I could explain exactly what I wanted and tactically he is very clever. He needs just the people who can give him the ideas and the instructions of what to do and then he will do them, because he is very clever.’
'I don't see too many better in the air. I don't see too many better or quicker or faster than him. I don't see too many technically better. Tactically, he is much better than the rest of players around him."

Mostly Barca fans who wanted to see the Barca triangle. The double pivot provides so much more balance when Busquets doesn't have to screen the entire width of the pitch on his own. At Barca leaking a bit more goals is obviously not a problem when you have Messi, Eto'o, Henry, Villa, Neymar etc. upfront. It also makes more sense in a league format to be more offensive where you need to accummulate points by scoring goals and winning games. Spain on the other hand first and foremost need to keep it tight in knockout competitions. Even 0-0 is not a problem as Spain are like prime Germany now at penalties.
Having said that: Alonso is clearly way past his prime, much much worse than Xavi at this point. I'd play Thiago in his role now.
Costa
Iniesta Xavi Silva
Busquets Thiago
Alba Ramos Pique Azpi
Casillas
Iniesta Xavi Silva
Busquets Thiago
Alba Ramos Pique Azpi
Casillas
Clearly a different animal compared to that joke lineup in the Confeds.

I 100 % believe that del Bosque didn't bother to reveal his cards so early and rather prefered to test some things and some players. Obviously he didn't go out to deliberately throw the game away and I don't want to disrespect Brazil's victory, but it tells us pretty much nothing. There will most likely be a rematch in the World Cup and you will remember me.
Neymar is finishing like prime Romario for Brazil. At Barca he often misses easy chances. How crazy is this:
Obviously it's easier to statpad against South Africa in a charity game as it is to finish in a pressure game where the league trophy is at stake away from home in a derby.

Re: David Luiz
Let's just agree to disagree on Del Bosque's plans during the Confeds but I don't understand your last point about Neymar. I agree with you about his poor finishing for Barcelona. But are you saying it's because of the pressure? Neymar carried Santos to a Libertadores title and was our most important player in the Confed Cup. Regardless of what you think about Spain's lack of motivation, you have to understand that it was an important tourney for us. We had no WC qualifiers, Mano had turned our team into a joke, and it was a home. I don't know why Neymar has awful finishing for Barca but I don't think it's the pressure.

Re: David Luiz
He suits Brazil's high line and high pressure tactics more. Complete opposite of Terry.Top class defender and leader. Look at this clown Fußball embarrassing himself all over this thread. Calma mate.
We're in an era where every defender is overrated & liability so I'm not surprised he gets alot of hate. Pepe, Ramos, Hummels, Kompany, Terry, Pique, Koscielny etc they're all walking disasters to these hipsters.

Re: David Luiz
And I don't see how not rating the likes of Pepe makes someone a football hipster. Pepe has pretty much single-handedly cost Real Madrid in 3 consecutive CL semi-finals. First he got himself sent off in 2011. Then he caused a penalty against Gomez in 2012. Then he made 3 errors in a single game against Dortmund in 2013. Today at it again as usual:
Slipped in the 2011 Supercopa Clasico for Messi's goal. Jumped and mishit the ball for Messi's equalizer last year in the Camp Nou Clasico. Pretty much f*cking up in every single big game. Should have been sent off and banned for stomping on Messi's hand. The list is endless. He is pretty much the definition of a "walking desaster".
In that list Terry is the only proper defender, especially in his prime.
Hummels is still young.
Pique needs a proper partner.
Koscielny is okay albeit too rash.
Ramos will retire with about 40+ red cards in his career.
Kompany bought into his SKY Sports media hype which hinders him from becoming more than he should. Has the typical "English hardman wanabe captain fantastic" attitude.

Re: David Luiz
Charity match pls Spain went there to win as Del Bosque fielded the side he thought was best for the match and then they got thrashed, plain and simple. Fussbal just mad his beloved Xaviesta got owned by Gustavo and Paulinho
