Re: David Luiz
Luiz is a strange one. I still believe he can be a top CB if he wants to. Sometimes it's impossible to go past him and he really gives in a WC worthy performance. But then other times he ruins his reputation doing something really bizarre.

When they have just spent 23m on a DM?
A bit unlikely and i don't like him there anyway, his distrubution is poor and he just runs round like a raving lunatic because he has no idea how to position himself.

Re: David Luiz
Cannot agree with Bhendsy that Luiz is good at DM as I repeatedly criticized even Rafa's decision to place him there. While he succeeds in his range of distribution within the defensive midfield, he lacks movement to actually screen the attack and prefers to stick to one man, despite it being nonsensical to the actual play. Within that role you need to screen the oncoming attack while also retreating to the biggest threats when necessary yet since he is so tactically deficient, he fails to do that.
When pressured by a midfield even so meagre as United, he is nowhere to be seen recovering balls or even shielding the ball correctly when recovering possession, choosing only to spray it onto the fullbacks, even when not needed.
A better CB than DM.

Suarez has actually been alright this season, apart from that dive v Villa. He has let his world class talents do the talking.
Luiz is just a sneaky dirty player. Going in with elbows, little sneaky dirty tackles here and there. Provokes players..
He seems to have an issue with United too. I remember when he did that cheeky laugh at OT when he got Rafael sent off.
He's a nothing player too.

A bit of grit and steal is fine when you have eyes for the ball.
Mind you Rafael and Vidic were no better than David Luiz today though

I understand Donut's amazement tbh. The same tackle in La Liga would end up with ambulances called and wills written out

Whether you like or dislike him, he is so much fun to watch. There's either going to a nice piece of skill, a desperate challenge or a complete defensive brain fart - and often all three in that order!

He will go down in the same tier as Guti. Talent is obviously there but never consistent enough. It's not an age thing either. Just mentality.

RG, Guti was pure talent from a brimstone of forged talent itself. His problem was attitude of inconsistent order. Luiz has a problem with lapses yet it delves further into his lack of intelligence and learning the basics of defence 1-0-1. He has handy skill for a CB yet is exposed in the midfield and final third to which he shows his limits. Latter point is not something I blame him for; yet it cannot be compared to Guti who performed when he truly wanted and was capable of multiple propensities footballers can't even dream of.
