Ballack vs Gerrard

I don't really like these kind of topics..
But something took my attention when I heard someone saying that Gerrard is a Legend, and Ballack is just a really good football player.

When it comes to Footballing, and really.. in a non-biased opinion, Gerrard was not better than Ballack.

Then why most of people think that Gerrard is a Legend (he is) and Ballack not (he also is).
One man club maybe?

Gerrard is not a worldwide legend, hes just a liverpool legend. Ballack is a worldwide legend.

I loved Ballack in 2002...but lost respect for him when he left Bayern for FREE. A player of his calibre...Not to mention he switched from one big rival to other in Germany.

Gerrard gets more love because he's English and a one-club man.

I don't care about perception, though. People who followed Ballack's career know his abilities/what he's all about.

What exactly has Ballack done over Gerrard that one is a worldwide legend and other one a domestic one?

Both have 1 ridiculous tournament in their careers in which they basically ran their team,

Ballack with Germany in 2002
Gerrard with Liverpool in 2005

People forget what an unbelievable player Gerrard was (and still is when he doesn't have continuous groin problems).....He's scored in every single final game he's played in, and he's marshalled his team to victories in all famous European venues (Old Trafford, Meazza, Camp Nou, etc) with a relatively inferior squad.

Only 2 years ago, Zidane was praising him left and right....can't believe how quickly his genius and sheer dominance has been forgotten


and don't forget, I am Ballack's biggest fan. Been since 2002, and how him and Kahn took an average Germany team to WC final. Shame that MB was suspended in the end

Ah two of favourites.Both are Legends in their own ways.

Ballack has that extra special aura when playing of Germany juts like Gerrard has for Liverpool.They are more than just a Captain and are true leaders in every sense which is rare these days.

Most people base their opinions on Ballack on his time at Chelsea. Ballack is a legend, he defined an era of German football. When Bayern Muncih was dominating German football, Ballack was the lynchpin of that side. In the 2002 World Cup, Ballack was just overshadowed by Kahn. He was Germany's best outfield player and after Ronaldo and Kahn he was the best player of the World Cup (yes better than Rivaldo) and without him they would never have gone into the final. He was also one of Germany's most influential players in Euro 2008, it is ridiculous how he is underrated. One of the best box to box midfielders this game has ever seen.

If Ballack would have won something... but the eternal 2nd place was always haunting him.

I loved him at Bayern and was torn when he left for Chelsea, but he did good there too and many fans loved him.

I'm torn up, Gerrard is also a living legend. Tie!

for me, Ballack but it's a lot like Lampard v Gerrard? they're too close to have an outright winner.

IMHO Gerrard got the "Liverpool-thing" going for him, that's why he's a legend.
I do think that Ballack's the better player, or at least was, though. His goal tally alone would make most English strikers cream their pants.

But imho he could've done himself a huge favor and stuck to a single club longer, though he really isn't a club whore either, but he should've stuck with Bayern, probably. Admittedly, though, he wanted to stay at Chelsea, they just retardedly didn't offer him a proper contract.

But being a legend isn't about how good a player you are, it's about your impact. And Ballack divided his time between Bayern, Leverkusen and Chelsea. Gerrard can take a lot of credit for what Liverpool's done - it just sounds good.

Ballack just was what every box-to-box player wants to be. He's like Khedira, except perfect. Better tackles, better positioning, better reading of the game, much better finishing, could even play proper through balls.

Gerrard was a bit more technical, and not really inferior, but just not as complete.

Gerrard easily. Don't listen to viva.

Gerrard is more complete than Ballack.

Ballack never went that extra step that Gerrard did. Gerrard led a nobody liverpool side to victory in the hardest tournament in the world.
He also took them to the final 2 years later.

Just as ballack always finishes 2nd, so does he here, behind gerrard.
