Don't need another midfielder, and even if we signed him Gerrard isn't going to be benched regularly even if he deserves it.

Jack Butland is a talented young goalkeeper. He would obviously be a good replacement to José Reina, seeing as how his abilities are already deteriorating and they will get worse over time. I cannot see José Reina having the longevity of a goalkeeper such as Edwin Van der Sar, to be honest.

We'd most likely purchase Jack Butland for an extortionate price, even though in my opinion we are better off procuring a more talented, yet still young goalkeepers in Bernd Leno, Oliver Baumann, or Kevin Trapp.

Also tweeted by Tancredi Palmeri a CNN Italian Correspondent who apparently is not getting some serious stick from LFC Fans . . . What has happened to us!!!! Don't kill the messenger people!!

28 years old. Wages out of this world. Prima-donna.

On the other hand he's a world class attacking midfielder. Would be an improvement over all of our midfielders (except Lucas). £8mill is a great piece of business for his caliber.

Negatives outweigh the positives for me. And I don't like his attitude.

Sneijder?...

Technically, he's what we need. He is a world-class CAM (when he's not in dispute with his manager/club).

I don't think this is real, though. Just look at Rodgers's recent comments. They all point toward forwards (and possibly a defensive necessity) in January. He stated that we wouldn't be looking for a #10 until summer. It's possible that he's playing games with the media and/or putting other clubs off of our targets. It's also possible that a deal could be too good to turn down. However, I don't think Sneider fits in either category.

To me, Sneijder seems too much like a repeat of Joe Cole. He's an aging player who hasn't performed particularly well for club or country in the past few seasons, being let go at a reduced price...

I would much rather go for a younger, rising talent such as Belhanda, Eriksen, Holtby, etc.

On a separate topic:
What's everyone's feeling on a potential deal for a true #9?

I am still not convinced Sturridge will be played through the middle. I think the majority of that was media wind-up following his unrest at CFC. To me, he's shown he has a great understanding of what is needed from a wide forward. Why change that? Then again, I could be wrong.

So, the question is: are we looking to sign a true #9, or will we continue with Suarez in that fals9-ish role?

BR has mentioned in many interviews how the squad wont be ready until 2-3 more windows. He also mentioned how he'll add "one or two bits" this Jan.

Sturridge seems one, Whose another?
Ince? Butland?
Maybe a new signing out of the blue.

As of this window, i don't see any changes except how BR utilizes Sturridge and Suarez. If that doesn't work i expect BR to go for target man in Jan considering how many goals the trio can get in under their belt ( Luis Stu Fabio).

Also remember reading BR saying his budget this window is tight but the summer one will be decent. Im pretty sure we wont go for anything big this window but im more than willing to be surprised.

Unlikely. As I understand it the earliest the paperwork for a deal can be completed and submitted is the 2nd, so he probably won't be available until the 3rd at the earliest.

If we were to acquire the services of Wesley Sneijder, that would be absolutely brilliant. A full-on attacking midfielder that would hopefully minimize the amount of attacking runs that Steven Gerrard would make from deep midfield leaving gaps, and someone that could combine with Luis Suarez to form a formidable duo. Although Luis Suarez is not a Diego Milito-esque finisher, Sneijder would hopefully be able to bring out the best in everyone else around him.

This really is a transfer I would like to see.

Sneijder isn't happening. He's much too expensive for us. And who's to say he wouldn't turn into another Joe Cole. The risk is too high.

I was posting in regards to Fahim89 who said that the transfer would be €10m. He's not English, so that's a good start. And he is proven at the biggest stages in European football.

Consider the wages as well, He is already on around 150k and he won't take a pay cut to move to England considering the amount on taxes on foreign players and his age.

Don't let the €10m fool you. His wages are out of this world, we simply do not have the capacity to spend so much right now. This is barely the first season where we're balancing our books after the horrible mismanagement by G+H. We can't afford WC players right now, so I much rather we don't waste the money now other than on some cheap young necessities for the team who would have value for money.

Even if he didn't have an awful attitude, high wages, and a year and a half or so of playing like crap, I'd oppose this transfer simply because we have more pressing needs than an AM.

"I’ve got a lot of time for Joe as a player and as a person,” said Redknapp.

“I’d like to bring Joe here if I can but the deal would have to be right for the club.

“We couldn’t do a deal as it [Cole's wages] is at Liverpool. I’ll have to speak to Brendan Rodgers. We’ll have a chat when the time’s right.”

I wonder how the Cole thing could happen, because QPR - or any other club for that matter - are not going to offer him the wages he is on. We know Harry likes to talk. The only way I can see it happening is if we let him go for free - which wouldn't be bad because we got him for free - but pay him some compensation (which would probably be around £1-2 million...) so that he would accept lower wages at QPR.

But even if the move materialises, I'd be surprised if there was any financial benefit in it for us.
