Figo is a true winger while Cristiano is a forward who happens to cut in from wide. Very different roles. Cristiano is still young and there is many things to happen in his career.
While Cristiano is a far prolific and consistently performs plus a physical beast but Figo was a better dribbler, passer, crosser, free kick taker and had a far better football brain.

Do you know it is really insulting to Figo when you say "obviously". Just because Cristiano scores truckloads of goals does not mean he is an obvious better footballer than Figo. We are talking about Figo not David Beckham.

Cristiano surpassed him as a goalscorer and all round goal threat but in general play Figo was far superior.

Unless Cristiano magically becomes an elite passer and has a football brain on the level of Messi that isn't going to change.

At the end of the day, the goal of the game is to put the ball in the back of the net. Few to have played the game have done that better than Cristiano.

And Figo wasn't "far superior" in general play. Stop exaggerating.

Figo was far superior in general play, no doubt.

But Ronaldo is clearly the better player.

We are comparing apples to oranges btw. CR7 is a striker-type and Figo is a midfielder-type. The whole comparison is flawed. One's job is to create chances, help build up and score the occasional goal while the other's single purpose is to score for the past 4 years.

I agree with this. Different roles, Figo was a winger, CRonaldo is not.

You guys do know CR wasn't always a goalscoring machine right? He was originally a dribbler/playmaker when he began his career and found the perfect balance in 06/07 between scorer/creator before he bulked up and Fergie turned him into a finisher in the 07/08 season.

My only legit problem regarding Messi is exactly why household names like Ibra, Cesc, Villa etc stats/performances declined once they moved to Catalonia.

My only legit problem regarding Messi is exactly why household names like Ibra, Cesc, Villa etc stats/performances declined once they moved to Catalonia.

Zlatan at Milan average 22 goals / season, Barca 21 goals.
Villa at Valencia 26 goals / season, Barca 23 goals.

Fabregas at Arsenal 10-11 9+17, Barca 15+20.

And they have only themselves blame for their shitty performances, and not fitting in a team play. Villa has screwed god know how many 1on1's, that Messi set up for him. Zlatan was beyond shit at one point, and Fabregas decided suddenly not to score after January.

Youre not serious right? Figo is one of the best wingers the game has ever seen! Robben is not close to being one of the best. He might be a very good winger, but certainly not even close to being better than Figo.

Both have different roles. Ronaldo is more of a finisher, while Figo was more of a playmaker. Ronaldo is certainly not a winger. They performed completely different jobs. Figo was more of a team player and that does it for me. I would rather have Figo at any of the Ajax teams than Ronaldo.

Then again it depends what set up your team has. Ronaldo is pretty much the main target man in Madrid and Benzema is not a #9, so he drops deep to open up space for Ronaldo to run into and score his goals.

Figo usully dropped a lot deeper and helped move the ball forward. We have seen them play together and they are completely different. If I want a playmaker, I would choose Figo, if I want a relentless goal scorer, Ronalod would be my first choice.

figo is a great player indeed, but ronaldo for me is better , goals win you matches and you cant just brush it under the carpet by saying 'those are just goals'. also as an all round attacking threat ronaldo packs quite a punch, since he can score from anywhere, physically great with a lot of pace , needs a lot of defenders to mark him which draws them away from their original markers etc etc
