Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
Alleged contractual issues, that is.
We've all heard the rumours and read the stories. The longer time goes on without any word on these two, the more speculation will continue to grow. The Fail today published this story, claiming the club is only willing to offer Cole (and Frank, for that matter) a 1 year extension (which I'm still struggling to believe as far as Cole's is concerned), and that Ash will reject it and leave at the end of this season.
If these reports of this one-year limit on extensions are true - and that's a big "if" - the board is completely and officially hopeless. For Frank, I could understand. He's 34, and is, admittedly, showing signs of slowing down. One year for him isn't unreasonable. But Cole is still only 31, and is still among the best left-backs on the planet. He has several more years left at the top level, and there's no reason or logic whatsoever why the club should be handling this this way.
Simply letting these players walk out the door just because these idiots at the top think we have ready-made replacements football-wise would be ludicrous. Their experiences is priceless, and their status within the club and the longevity of their time here is invaluable in acting as mentors, role-models, and teachers for the younger, rawer players in the squad.
Getting rid of them would prove to be a massive gaffe, and would threaten to destroy the impeccable chemistry and balance we have in the squad.
Let's just hope everything turns out well.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
both would be huge losses for the club, Cole because hes still among the best LBs in the world and probably the best in the PL for that matter, and even though Lamps might not be at that level where he cna start every week, hes still an awesome super-sub

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
In all honesty, I wouldn't be so sure Cole has so much time left in him.
Lampard should be give a 1 year one, 2 at max.
Cole should be given a 2 year one. I doubt we will keep him beyond that though.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
there would be some questions about Coles fitness though, for example he does get an extra day recovery after each game

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
I'd give them both a 2 year contract, with Lampard having a one year one with a possible extension based on appearances made etc.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
2 for Cole one for Lampard which can be extended one by one for another zillion years
Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
Why not just let Lampard sign a contract which means he can play here untill he wants to, at which point he can leave on a free?

Reminds me of Ballack's offer of pay-as-you-play contract that he declined and moved on from the Bridge

Lampard is much more of a legend though. He should be given what he wants tbh.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
Just give them both 2 years and move on ffs. I can guarantee after those two years Lamps will hang his boots.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
I'm quite sure Lamps will call it after this year, just feels like it.
Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
Eh, I tend to agree with Barrett that they should both be given 2 year deals. Cole is still a world class defender, and one of the best players in his position on the planet, and Lamps is one of the best, if not THE best player ever to wear a Chelsea shirt. As long as he doesn't start making a fuss over not playing every week again, there's no reason he can't stay on for 2 more years to come on as an impact sub - and of course eventually work his way to the magic 203iNFINITY9910 wrote:I'm quite sure Lamps will call it after this year, just feels like it.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
Yeah but eventually he will have to understand that he has reached his limit. I would prefer to see him leave on a high and not be on the bench for 90% of the season.
Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
I'd prefer to see him not leave at all. Let him finish his career out at Chelsea (as he's stated repeatedly he wants to do) and let him play out his final game at the Bridge and retire having cemented his place in history as the club's highest goalscorer and arguably greatest player everiNFINITY9910 wrote:Yeah but eventually he will have to understand that he has reached his limit. Fully agreed.
Hope he pads his stats for us until he breaks that record.
Just 13 goals left to tie it.

Re: Lamps and Cole Contractual Issues
I hope he doesn't become like Torres though
I remember canceling a lot of events just to wait and pray he'd score his first goal for the club just so I can say I was watching when he finally broke his duck

My bad, i didn't mean leaving as leaving to another club. Its basically retiring from Chelsea.
