i dont like seeing either arteta or wilshere chained back so much, partly because it seems like we wouldnt get the best out of them going forward (like when wilshere had to cover song), but also because neither are that great defending. Wilshere should become an AM (permanently) anyway, I don't like him defending. He can backup though.

Arteta becoming a DM, it restricts his attacking qualities but what can you do... we need his intelligence in defending and his passing skills while bringing the ball out of the defence.

It worked perfectly last season and this season till Diaby got injured.

Luiz Gustavo would be a perfect fit, a defensive midfielder with good passing and tackling skills - can play as a CB too. We can't sign him though , Bayern only sells for big money.

Diame would be a good signing for 3.5m, no doubt.

You actually need a Diaby)like player desperately... Arsenal lacks a physical presence in the midfield and a player that can truly go b2b. One thing i've noticed is that you don't really see the midfielders making truly attacking runs.

Arsenal is really predictable in the midfield right now.

I was watching Toulouse vs Bastia mainly for Sissoko, but god how impressive is Yatabaré. He looks like a less lazier version of Yaya, I swear. Maybe it's just a good day for him lol

We don't necessarily need one dedicated defensive midfielder. A double pivot where players take turn sitting deep and going forward, like what Song and Diaby used to do, could work just as well. It worked very well at the start of the season with Arteta and Diaby, and Arteta managed to put in some superb performances.

would welcome him..
he will add some steel to our midfield.. we wont get bullied by lower teams if we get him... from what i have seen he is energetic and instills fear on the opponents with his strength and pressing..
But he joined on a free last summer.. that means no big or midtable team had any real interest in him.. makes me wonder whether he will be really good in a longer term?

Wenger made it clear that he doesnt want Wilshere to be an ofensive player, but the complete midfielder..
and he also said that the role of pure dm is not acceptable now.. he believes in a fluid midfield combination in which players do both interchanging roles.. but this too difficult for our average players.. it may be simple to assign all defensive duties to a dm..
anyway, i will be happy if Diame can do atleast what Song did defensively...

Diame has been good for the Hammers, he has a surprising ability to beat his man even though he is a big player himself. But I don't know if he's quite Arsenal quality.

Just cause he's at a midtable club doesn't mean he's shit. Where did the likes of Valencia, Mascherano, Dembele etc etc play before they made moves? Dont judge players' abilities on where tehy play.

Diame brings fantastic energy and steel to every game. He wouldn't be a starter, but he would be a solid ALTERNATIVE.
