Re: Zidane statue
I saw this earlier. I just don't get it...
Why commemorate the instant that your nation lost the World Cup? Why commemorate one moment of insanity in an otherwise legendary career?

Re: Zidane statue
The whole zinedine zidane moment goes a lot deeper than most people think. He set an example for not taking shit.
It deserves some praise, if you can look at the situation from outside the box.

It also sets an example that you can piss of your opponent to make them lose

Re: Zidane statue
the french make fun of themselves culturally... i mean the most popular show perhaps ever was "les guignoles du dimanche", which was a puppet show that made fun of everyone and anyone.
You have to be french to appreciate it. THe more you're made fun of, the more famous you are.

Re: Zidane statue
Isn't that the same in most advanced nations? The two most famous shows in catalunya are a satirical sports show (Crackovia , pretty sure you've seen some sketch) and a satirical political show.

Because it's in the Modern Art museum, where they do things differently.
Also, what sportsczy said: that's actually something the French and Germans have in common. The ability to laugh about yourself is considered a virtue.

Re: Zidane statue
The impression that I got is that it symbolises the struggle against discrimination/multiculturalism. The sculptor of this statue is of Algerian decent if I'm not mistaken and many do believe that Matterazzi said some pretty hurtful words regarding Zidane's heritage.

Re: Zidane statue
The man is a legend & deserves a statue... but personally I think a statue of him heading the ball through the legs of Roberto Carlos is more befitting than heading the chest of a dickhead like Materazzi.
