No he's not. Again Madrid fans shoving this garbage down our throats.
Ridiculous coming from a fanbase that frequently shoves their mid-table level players down our throats . at least in this forum .
Casillas was at one point a top 2 GK in the world and one of the greatest of all time , He then suffered a staggering decline and is now a shell of his former self .
Let's leave it at that instead of trying to rewrite history and deny the man's accomplishments and the ridiculous high level at which he operated at some point in his career.

Re: Iker Casillas
yeah, mentally, i think he's checked out. goalies gaffe, even the best of em schmeichel, kahn all of em. but some of these iker's gaffes of late, i think when he left madrid he totally checked out. and he has always been a superstitious fellow, athletes like that can tend to lose confidence quickly....but that's no excuse for that rubbish lol. it might be best for him to just step aside and bow out the game. he's had a wonderful career that most of the great goalies will never have. when goalies start making these atrocious mistakes of his; (which the best in the twilight of their careers have) it might be time to pack it in

Re: Iker Casillas
No disrespect, but why can't he just retire from international football?
He's won everything, give some other guys (especially De Gea) an opportunity to be the no.1 GK in an international tournament.
De Gea has been a better keeper than him for years now, yet still doesn't get picked ahead of him in major tournos due to the politics of the national team.
Kinda winds me up a bit.

Have some respect, he is still breaking records. He just became Porto's most scored-on keeper in the 21st century.

Re: Iker Casillas
What a pos, i am glad we kicked him out.
Had a falling out with Del Bosque after being bench in the euros. Marca had an investigative piece about how things went to cold between him and VDB. this same vdb who stuck with him at all times even after last world cup diasater,
Truly ungrateful pos, vdb said he sent goodbye messages to everyone but Casillas
smh

And VDB rightfully benched him too, just too late though. He shouldn't have played at the WC

Ddg didnt do any better after replacing Iker. Bit childish of Vdb to tell everyone about the falling out. Iker has never said a word and these ungrateful coaches keep kicking him while he is down

Doesn't matter at this point. Iker has done shit in the last years to even be in the squad.

Re: Iker Casillas
De Gea was one of Spain's best players, no doubt that he should have started. Casillas is only in the squad because of what he did in the past, not what he is currently doing.

Re: Iker Casillas
this whole thing seems weird, i find it difficult to believe that iker expected to start or even play. my guess is this may have to do with him not getting a minute in the last group game after spain had qualified. just my guess. The strangest thing is, its uncharacteristic of del bosque to be the one to bring this up. bigger things have happened in his career that he hasn't spoken of or brushed aside, that he decided this was something he should make mention of is strange and unlike him. but casillas c'mon even in the last group game when a team has qualified, outfield substitutes get the first chance at playing time, cos they may be called upon down the line in the case of injuries and fatigue....not sub goalkeepers, its a miracle for sub goalies to get any sort of playing time, and someone like iker should have been the first to realize this...that said didn't expect del bosque to be the one to throw people under the bus

mourinho left madrid cos of reasons more than just iker, if iker was the only reason, mou would have stayed; florentino likes mou, but his (florentino) relationship with iker was rocky. and whilst the problems associated with madrid are well documented, we've won two ucl's without mourinho....so the feud doesn't do much to vindicate him

Re: Iker Casillas
That's not true... he lost the dressing room because, when the team won, it was because of him. And when the team lost, he threw the players under the bus. You can't do that on an elite team. The players have just as much, if not more, brand equity as Mou and they weren't going to stand for it.
He was also rude toward the media and Spain in general. Made comments about Spanish racism against the Portuguese and also refused to attend the award ceremony with the king of Spain present after we lost in the CDR final.
The guy is a very good manager, but lacks class and has the ego the size of Ronaldo's.

Re: Iker Casillas
right on, he does that thing a lot. did it at chelsea too, he's quick to say what he has won, but when things aren't going well, he looks for players or staff to blame. he and iker had their feud, but he had issues with cristiano, had issues with pepe, and even publicly spoke about pepe being envious that he's getting older and varane is taking his place, had issues with ozil, madrid's castilla coach at the time, carvalho (who was now training with castilla) and a host of others. even the portuguese got tired of the situation. it turned into mourinho and karanka vs everybody.....until arbeloa started giving his two cents

Re: Iker Casillas
The numbers do not lie: even at the grand old age of 35, Iker Casillas is still staking a big claim to be considered among Europe's finest goalkeepers.
And with Keylor Navas under pressure in the Bernabeu net, did Real Madrid possibly rush into discarding one of their most legendary figures?
Casillas' Porto team cruised to a 7-0 thrashing of Nacional on Saturday, putting the Portuguese giants ahead of Benfica at the top of the Primeira Liga.
That clean sheet was his 15th in 24 league games so far this season, and means he continues with the record of conceding just 11 times over the course of 2016-17.
No other goalkeeper can match Casillas' formidable keeping record, which is the finest in Europe.
Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer comes closest with 13 goals conceded in 23 games, while the top five is rounded out by Sergio Asenjo of Villarreal, fellow legend Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus and Barcelona's Marc Andre ter Stegen.
Casillas is also comfortably out-performing Navas, his replacement at the Bernabeu after he was released at the end of the 2014-15 season.
The Costa Rican has conceded 20 in his 18 appearances for Madrid in La Liga this term, keeping a paltry four clean sheets - less than a third of the number managed by his predecessor.

Re: Iker Casillas
@valkyrja; its great to hear that he's getting back to form, he's always been a magnificent goalie. as much as i was one of the few who always defended him when people wanted diego lopez (who i hardly ever rated), the move to let iker go wasn't a rush nor mistake
imo once a player reaches a certain age, top clubs should start planning for life without that player. such a move might lead to pitfalls and mishaps in the process but its never going to be a long term regret because said player has peaked, and only has a little number of years left to give out the little left in the tank. even if iker stayed, at some point the club was going to look for younger blood regardless.
its very different from say, letting eto'o go at like 19, 20, only for him to turn into an elite forward, at a time when raul had fast declined
