Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Samir Nasri needs to stay at the club in order to fulfil his true potential as a player and also spoke about the future of captain Cesc Fabregas, claiming he would stay for 'a long time'.
Nasri has yet to agree terms on a new contract and, with his current deal expiring next summer, could leave on a free if Arsenal do not sell him. Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus have all been linked with the Frenchman, but Wenger insists that he wants to keep the 23-year-old in London.
"We will do everything to keep Nasri at the club. My wish is that he stays here," Wenger told the Sun. ''If he looks back he can see that he's come quite a long way with us, and I think there is still a bit to do. It's the club that makes the player's career."
Arsenal have also had to deal with more reports that captain Cesc Fabregas will ask for a transfer to Barcelona this summer, but Wenger maintains that the Spain star will be at the Emirates for a long time yet.
"I will be pretty clear about this. For me, Fabregas is with Arsenal for a long time and he will stay with Arsenal," Wenger said. "It sometimes happens that the rumour can make the transfer.
"Next year will see the introduction of the financial fair play system, which will limit the big transfers. I think this is the last year that the summer will be hot - very hot."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will say this full confidence that Cesc and Nasri will be at Arsenal next season, if you see in the article Wenger did not mention Clichy at all.

I'm getting just a bit bored of this now. How goddamn hard is it to finalize a transfer? United have pretty much signed a brand new squad in the time it's taken us to do nothing

Patience, guys. Just be patient.
The signings will happen. Sure, we'd like for them to be done early and all that but in the end as long we get the players in, it doesn't matter too much when.
It's not like we're the only club yet to make any significant moves.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Anyway, main story today resolves around young Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
This coming from the Southampton manager himslef, so I think it's safe to say it's true. Earlier today Sky Sources claimed that we had opened talks with Southampton, which could be true, but at the max they're just tentative discussions.
Personally, I really don't think we need to buy Chamberlain especially when we're working with limited funds. The priority should be to strengthen the first team. I hope the club understands that and will hold fire on any potential Chamberlain move; get the Cahill deal done first, and get Momo Diarra in as well.
SkySports wrote:Southampton manager Nigel Adkins says Arsenal have yet to bid for starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain amid speculation the clubs have opened talks.
The 17-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of English football's brightest up-and-coming talents and he has been consistently linked with a move to Emirates Stadium.
Adkins is aware of the fresh reports that the clubs are in discussions, although he insists the same scenario developed in the January transfer window when nothing materialised.
Saints' boss is sure Arsenal are mulling over a move for the youngster, however, if they are to secure his signature he explains they will have to follow proper procedure.
"We had the same sort of scenario in January," he told Sky Sports News. "He was going to go in January, wasn't he? But he didn't.
"I think it will be interesting when that does materialise if Arsenal or whoever does start talking to the football club.
"At this moment in time he is at Solent University doing fitness testing with the players and I had a conversation with Alex last week, he was doing a little bit of training.
"He really loves being at Southampton. It is as simple as that."
He added: "I think probably there is conversation going on in the boardroom at Arsenal about players who are probably going to stay and players that are going to leave.
"If Arsenal wanted to put a bid in I am sure they would put a bid in the right manner to the board and then this football club will decide what they want to go and do with that bid if it is offered."

i am not "feeling" the potential signing of oxlade
i dont know if he is ronaldo-esque good that we are paying over 10m for him. With walcott, his performances in southampton did make most of us say yea he is gonna be some talent
but oxlade hasnt done anything to get the hype. Most of the times its either his dad or the coach saying stuff like hes better then walcott etc
just my 2 cents

I feel the same way. We're signing Gervinho and already have Walcott, so it makes little sense to splash such a large sum of money on a kid who plays the same position as those two. It's not like Gervinho or Walcott are old either - 24 and 22 respectively - and both will be in their prime years by the time Chamberlain is fully developed as a player.
Can we really afford to pay £10,000,000 odd on a player we don't need when there're other areas of the squad that need addressing? I don't think we can.

Two different types of players though. Walcott came through as a striker and played mostly up front for Southampton, while Chamberlain is a winger/attacking midfielder. Also, Walcott came through at a time when Southamtpon were a sinking ship, while Chamberlain has emerged during a time when Southampton are very much on the up.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I've always been supportive of Wenger trying to secure young footballers for the long term future of the club, but this summer I could care less about the Jenkinsons and the Chamberlains. We're a couple of solid signings away from getting there, and we shouldn't be throwing £12million at a player who's going to take 3 years to develop.
I don't know if Wenger's tactic of being patient is going to work this year, especially if Cesc and Nasri are sold. Clubs will know we've got the dough to cough up, and will have the upper hand when we're negotiating for their players.

It's not, really.
There's still two months of the transfer window left. Gervinho is likely to be announced on Monday at the earliest, so that's a start.
The fact that a lot of fans are currently in a state of panic and anger at the moment over our perceived lack of activity is very much a byproduct of the media releasing false stories. Arsenal annoucning three signings on July 1st just wasn't going to happen.
Right now we're the easiest fans to wind up - to get exicted or to get angry - and the media are very much taking advantage of that.

Patience guys.. We don't panic buy, characteristic our transfer policy.. We have been fairly silent, but that just means the BTS work is in full swing.. It DOES NOT mean we are inactive and not making moves.. Trust our board, and more importantly AW, to make the right buys for the right costs..

@Boss: That will only happen when we still have Denilson/Bendtner/Blondie as first team starters next season and end up selling Fab/Nanas/Clichy.. Pretty slim chances, I hope
