Two Strikers - Way to go?
So many BPL clubs seem to be heading into the season with just two established / reliable strikers.
Liverpool - Suarez & Borini
Tottenham - Adebayor & Defoe
Newcastle - Cisse & Ba
Arsenal - Giroud & Podolski
Chelsea - Torres & Sturridge
And all these teams have European competitions on top of domestic ones.
Does anyone else find this weird?
And which club do you think is going to struggle the most if their main man gets injured or loses form?

Chelsea would be in the most trouble considering they don't want to play the back up striker as a striker in the first place.

Re: Two Strikers - Way to go?
The good thing is how common false nines are used nowadays, so even if both strikers are hurt, they could throw a winger or attacking midfielder up top and usually make it work. For example, if Torres and Sturridge were unavailable, Chelsea could play a frontline of Mata-Hazard-Marin which I bet would work.

Re: Two Strikers - Way to go?
Most of those play with one striker tbf.....
We are the ones that are really vulnerable with the possibility of AFCON and our 3rd and 4th striker being Ameobi and a 17 yr old

Isn't Podolski going to play LW with Giroud as CF?

The title-challenging teams (Manchester clubs) have more strikers. Tells you all really.

Re: Two Strikers - Way to go?
Well, the season before last, Mourinho did it...
Only Higuain and Benzema...
But it came back to haunt us when Higuain got injured... we did get Ade on loan, but essentially spent the entire season with only 2 available strikers... Didn't hurt our season much

Don't they usually play with 2? Or at least play one wide?fatman123 wrote:WBA: Long, Odenwigie, Lukaku and Rosenburg

BTW, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Chelsea all play with one of the strikers listed out wide.

Re: Two Strikers - Way to go?
I find this particularly weird for Liverpool and Chelsea who both loaned out a CF (Carroll and Lukaku) who could step in to offer something different or if the first two strikers need a rest, are injured or banned.
Going to be tough for Newcastle, too, since both Dembas are regular starters... Actually the same probably applies to Arsenal as well x)
Chamack, yeah... Come on Chamack, come on!
But my bottom line is that if this shortness of attacking options doesn't come to bite back any of those clubs during the season it's going to be a small miracle. Just hoping it won't be Liverpool...

Ba----Cisse---Ben Arfa
--Jonas---Cabaye
------Tiote
TBH, I would play some kind of 4-4-2/4-2-2-2 if I had Ba and Cisse, too. Ba just doesn't work very well on the LW.

Re: Two Strikers - Way to go?
4-4-2 is awful, i rant about it constantly and that's what we have used so far this season.
Ba might not be his best from a goalscoring POV but the team is at it's best when we use 4-3-3 and that's what matters.
1. Ba and Cisse are crap as a 2.
2. Forces Cabaye and Ben Arfa into their own half
3. Jonas has to play left wing and provide creativity and he can't do it.
All round it's just shit.
