To think that this was going to be a summer of revolution. I expect movement, yet I also expect transfers that make me wish we'd sat on our hands for these last few weeks.

Staying on topic, how good was Udinese Zapata?

Zapata at Udinese was quite effective, he had his best season by far in his final year in Udine, however it was in a counter-attacking system utilising three central defenders with a lot of cover in midfield from Asamoah and Inler, not to mention Isla to his side and with limited organisational responsibility placed upon Zapata's shoulders. Credit where it is due, despite the factors that I have mentioned, he did show himself to be a capable defender during his time at the Friuli, however I do not expect him to develop into an elite defender, though I believe he can be of use to a club on the fringes of European competition.


Ely has gone on loan to Reginna, along with Comi, so as it stands we have Mexes, Acerbi, Bonera, Zapata and Yepes for the centre and no youth back-up to boot - Iotti who deputised at times during pre-season is just 16 years old. Whilst I have high hopes for Acerbi, it is safe to say that this is probably the worst Rossoneri central defence in 30 years.
