Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Here is a crazy thought for the future. Why not teach both Josh and Oscar defencive awareness and positioning which shouldn't be too hard as both a very intelligent footballers and play them both in the pivot together?
To be a decent DM you have to have good positioning and awareness and a decent tackle. Our main complant with Mikel is he slows down play so why not teach these two boys to be defencively sound and we could dominate the EPL.
Thoughts?

A bit fragile may get raped against the likes of someone like yaya.
But who knows it could work

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Barca do not have an overly strong midfield and they do not get overrun.

There in a less physical league and there mids are the best in the world. I think it may work but placed next someone like essien would be better IMO

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Ruthless is right, theyre just too small to play in a double pivot together
thats because barca always have 70+% of the ball, theres no way we can do that

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Will be wasting their offensive capabilities, but they can do it if the defense is rock solid.
Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Would be awesome but they are both too weak physically to play a defensive role, especially in the EPL Kick
But the thought of magnetic one touch passing sounds awesome

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Not a chance, really can't see it happening at all although it would be nice to see kinda when we ain't being overrun.
Also it's not that easy to go and learn how to be defensively good and how to tackle, no matter how old and experienced you get (see Paul Scholes). Am sure in time both of them will develop defensive skills, but to the degree in which they can partner each other in the pivot I seriously doubt.

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
An easier solution 4-3-3
------DM--------
Oscar----McEachran
Both are ACMs, either are wasted in the pivot and even more so if both play there.
its not that it won't work because they are fragile or smallish, more so that you need someone to stay deep, protect the back four, so you don't get murdered on the counter.

Well for me unless like mentioned we have 70+ possession per game then I don't think it'll work. Barcelona defend by keeping hold of the ball(to some extent) which limits the amount the other teams can attack. While we usually hold on to the ball for the greater amount of the game we don't have the same sort of stats that they do, especially against the top teams.
The other issue for me is while a player can learn to be more disciplined and how to read the game better I don't really see either Joshie or Oscar becoming that strong defensively that we can play both of them there.
To me it'll always be one defensive mid and one CM, even if we bought somebody like Modric we'd still be playing a DM alongside them.

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
Having said that yesterday we had 72% possession and 89% pass accuracy
Maybe against weaker teams.

Re: Oscar and Josh in the Pivot?
I think one of them could play in the pivot, although theyd have to be partnered by Mikel, Romeu or anyone else who can play as a "makalelle DM"
