It was Euros u21 and Bartra was the better defender in that tournament. Inigo Martinez is just average at everythinh except ball play and grit.

Better than Íñigo Laughing Will your ignorant Barca bias ever cease?

And Bartra was not our best defender in the tournament, it was Moreno, followed by Íñigo. Bartra was an utter clown in the group stages and in the final.

Long way to go.

Bartra is quicker, faster and much better aerially than Iñigo. Oh and Bartra has a lot more technique and ball ability, but currently Martinez is more important to Sociedad in this department.

Martinez is only better at tackling.

That is quite a good point by you, Harhar as indeed I am biased towards Basque players, yet not in the situation when we are comparing a relatively unproven Bartra to a CB who has been a rock in Sociedad's defence since 2011. Bartra although very talented is made to look better given Mascherano's deficiencies and Pique's drastic decline.

Although he is better than what the mainland Spanish media depict him as, especially how complete he has shown to be so far.

I feel like this thread has escalated quickly. It has gone from "Bartra has been playing great in the minutes he has gotten" to "Bartra is better than Varane" to "Bartra is the best young CB prospect for Spain".

Let's see him retain this form consistently first and then make comparisons. So far I like what I see.

Well, I think the minutes he got so far for us, he played better than Pique and Masche. But that does not mean he is better than them nor does it mean he is best prospect.

Also, the thread has gone from a Bartra has a good form, to he was just barely average, which he was not. He was above average (compared to Barca not the league) CB for us those 7-8 games he was on.

And he has a potential to be good, but he is not Inigo's or Varane's level yet. Or maybe he is, but he has not had a constant playtime and was not tested with good defense.

So, to sum up IMHO he had a good start, and if he can keep it up, he has shown that we might not need a CB in winter and he should be given more confidence to start more games. Who knows, maybe he steps up and effects Pique to do the same.

The thread has gone from: "Bartra is playing better than expected" to "Bartra's season statistcally is better than Varane's" to "Bartra is better than Iñigo Martinez".

Which are all reasonable statements.

The Bartra/Barça youth haters just twisted the statements to make it look like what Barrilete is saying, which no one said.

Marc Bartra - Page 6 Empty Re: Marc Bartra

Post by Winter is Coming Mon Jan 06, 2014 4:48 pm

Marc Bartra is becoming a usual fixture in Tata Martino’s starting teams this season. “Things are working out,” said the center back, “but I know that I have to continue working in order to take advantage of the opportunities the manager gives me.” He added: “I’m starting to feel important, more a part of the team. Tata isn’t afraid to send me into a game. It’s better for the team to have a lot of players playing at a high level.”

Bartra, who was interviewed on Barça TV’s El Marcador by Oriol Rosell, went on to highlight the team’s eagerness to win: “It was important to have a strong start to the year. We’ve managed to navigate this time without Valdés and Messi. We haven’t lost our eagerness to win and that’s good for everyone.”

Intensity and titles

“Intensity is the key, when we have the ball and when we have to win possession back,” said Bartra. “Our rivals usually hold out in the first half, but in the second they usually give us more space.” The defender explained that he left the pitch before full time against Elche as a precaution, and that he’s available for selection should Martino need him for next weekend’s match against Atlético Madrid: “I have good memories from the Vicente Calderón. It would be a privilege to play again, to do what I can to help the team.”

Lastly, when asked about his wishes for 2014, Bartra said, “in addition to staying healthy, I’d like to win titles. We have to be ambitious, thinking always about the group. What’s good for the team is good for the individual.”

Bartra is best suited for a mid table club imo. He's just too slow and clumsy.

Didn;t watch the last game, but in the beginning of the season he was decent enough. Then he was not played at all, and now he has a lot on his plate. I take it it is normal that he could not perform at the best level, especially with Masche by his side. Again, i did not watch the game, but in general the few times he played he seamed like he can very soon be much better than Masche and Piques nr.1 (Pique nr.2 is the Pique against tough sides).

from what i have seen he is weak mentally.
whenever he knows he is going to start the game (due to injury from our starters or suspension) he plays below average.
when he comes from the bench in a hurry he seems to do a lot better

maybe a sign that he still needs maturing.
also wouldn't hurt to play him in la liga games more often rather then throw him against the best teams possible without prior match fitness.

Bartra was not only ok, but good vs Atletico. What are you guys on?
Mascherano was the hole in our defence creating all Atletico's chances.

I'm not surprised given his aggressive defensive style. What these stats don't show however is how many times he is caught out of position due to pushing up to win the ball.

TL;DR he needs to be more patient without the ball in my opinion. Maybe that will come with age.
