Re: Alex Song
Thing with Barca is they need to stick with what made them successful. I really do think Barca need a tall solid CB to play alongside Pique/Mascherano. Pique needs someone like that next to him. In terms of the fullback positions, it should be Alves and Alba.
Pedro and Villa should be the starting wing forwards, making diagonal runs. Alexis is more of a flashy player who would suit a counter-attacking style better. And yeh I agree Fabregas doesn't suit Barca. He just isn't mobile enough for the midfield and he isn't better than Messi in terms of CF. Someone like Banega would of been a better option in midfield.

Re: Alex Song
Dont exactly agree there. I think Adriano and Alba is to be decieded.
Alba has already cost us two goals this season by being a garden gnome. While Adriano is poor at rightback for some reason, he is a pretty good leftback. He balanced his role well.
When we has to be conservative, he does that. When he has room to get forward he does, and he can dribble well both left and right and can also shoot a bit. Crossing and final decisison is a bit come and go.

Re: Alex Song
I am not very impressed with Song at DM.He has been poor and I see some glaring problems.
The main problem is that he drops too far back and is very quick to drop back.
As a Barcelona DM,a player has to cut off attacks early and win the ball quickly.
Try and cut off the attack at the source and win the ball back as quickly as possibly.Preferably the ball should be won back in midfield.Busquets is the master at this.He effortlessly cuts off attacks at the source, either intercepting the ball or shielding the player with the ball from launching attacks. And most importantly he does this high up the pitch in midfield which helps us in two ways.It protects our defense by giving them more time and by winning the ball back high up the pitch helps our attack.Busquets first intention is always to win the ball back high up the pitch or cut off attacks at the source.Only if doesnt find these viable does he drop back. And he is such a tactically supreme player that he never makes mistakes while doing these calculations.
Song on the other hand is doing the exact opposite. He drops very deep as soon as the opposition have the ball.Doesnt try at all to win the ball high up the pitch or cut off attacks at the source.Instead he rushes back close to the CB's.A lot of the time he tries to position himself between the CB's when he should be closing down attacks. He should be there cutting off the attack and player.Instead he is there between the CB's or very close to them.Busquets almost never drops between the CB's when we are out of possession unless it is to cover a CB out of position.Song is making this mistake time and time again.
He seems to be taking sitting in front of the back four a bit too literally. He needs to realize that a DM for us needs to win the ball back or cut off attacks preferably in midfield, and not drop in between the CB's as soon as the opposition launches an attack.

Re: Alex Song
Should we keep him next season? I know he didn't have a good game last night, but I would personally like to see him more as a CM, and play the role Keita did when he was our player, and we needed a more physical presence in the midfield.
If we sell Cesc and bring a CB, maybe Song could be our 4th choice CM, and Mascherano can be Busquets' sub (I know people don't rate him that much as a DM for Barca, but I don't remember seeing him play there for us in the last couple of years).

Re: Alex Song
I dont think we should sell him.I have been pleasantly surprised by his performances for us.I think he has been very good in the chances he has got.
Whats more,he seems to have understood the intricacies of our pass and move game much better than Fab.I would pick Song ahead of Fab.
If it comes down to who should be sold between the two of them,I am all for kicking Fab out and keeping Song.

Re: Alex Song
He did alright I felt. Got blasted by Ribery, but if you thought he was ever capable of staying with him in a race of speed you were dreaming to begin with.
Gave in towards the end and guessed tackles rather than read them, but I can excuse him for that, he was one of like 8 or 9 who had given up.
But before all that, he was doing alright, pushed up well and won some balls, keep the ball mostly, showed some spirit..im good with Song.
Shame back up DM aint gonna cut it for him long term.

Re: Alex Song
Saw a recent 30 minute special on Song in Barcelona, not sure why it was made but none the less thought to watch.
Changed my perception to a degree, he doesnt seem unhappy at all, he said none of those rumors have come from him and he will defiantly be at at Barca next season.

Re: Alex Song
I'm actually very satisfied with Song. Steps up when asked too and doesn't moan. Also has been used as a double pivot with Busi to add extra defense at the end of games. I would much rather he stays with than Cesc

IMO he has been good considering the minutes he had. He is a great sub for Bussi. If he likes that role - he is perfect for us.

Re: Alex Song
He's been decent but he's still a completely unnecessary signing and he really doesn't/shouldn't be here, and I feel he'll want to leave if he stays here another year.
But he's been decent. Hasn't been bad, but hasn't shown anything extraordinary, but he was always a back up, so...
Still a waste of money, but that's not Song's fault.

Re: Alex Song
Why are Sky Sports presenters always so trashy...
PS: Song had been in UK since he was 17 and that's how he speaks English?! Man, his Castellano must suck ass then...and forget about Catalan...

He will be sold sooner rather than later. The sooner the better before his value decreases too much.
