Problem with repping posts is that anyone can do it.

Solution: reps recieved = spending points for reps you can give.

Can it be done?

I think it's fine the way it is, that you can only give positive reps (unless you know the way around it).

I wouldn't mind having the rep count visible again for every poster.

I honestly think it's fine they way it is, the rep system would become too much of a popularity contest.

This way good posts are recognised and that is all. Most of the time anyway.

A number of people can still do it. Myself included. Look. (I neg repped fatman's post as an example. No offense.)

Neg-repping would have been useful if people are not abusing it or using it deliberately to troll.

OP had a nice idea and we originally tried to incorporate a points system into the Rep system, but it was very shortlived as even that became a source of insult and derision among members.

As for the Rep System on a whole, I'm retiring it indefinitely until I can find alternative methods to not only prevent it from being abused, but to monitor those who use it.

We can't just scrap it forever? It's pretty useless honestly, and the members here have a habit of ruining things by abusing/overdoing them.

If there was a way to activate positive rep without doing the same for negative rep, I would do it, but as of now, there isn't. The URLs for the neg rep are still out there so it would just end up getting used again which would undermine the system.

Is this still like that? I was just reading a Guardian article and its comments, which use an only positive reputation / recommendation system and I got to thinking about our rep system; imo it would be an improvement if the forum had that only positive reps thing - but if those neg rep URLs cannot be helped then nevermind.
