Just saying unless you watched all the games again yourself i doubt these are accurate, as opta themselves have even said they won't have accurate stats of previous UCL games for a while.
With stuff like this it's nice to site you're sources.

actually wiki stats are not accurate.. check the stats on my infographic and the ones on wiki... different. (especially the number of games)..
What I'm trying to understand.. Any stat I mention on this forum, the first comment has to be from you... Trying to say* anything negative...
Can I know why?

The assist stats, I've looked though them alot, and I have to say you consistently see less assists for players the closer you get to the turn of the new millennium.
The standards of what counts as an assist have probably loosened over time or they probably won't recorded properly in the first place.

As assist in general should be considered as last contribution to a goal (other than goal scorer), I think the 1990 FIFA rules (transfermarkt.co.uk) probably give the best average representation of it.
Assist for:
- Straight last passer
- Fouled player in penalty (if not who takes it)
- Rebound from goal post
- Rebound from goalie
- Deflected own goal

Re: Most UCL assists since 2001/02
^Says so...but still I look at these stats and am I really supposed to believe had 0 assists in 03-4 and 2 assists in 02-03 when he was in his absolute prime, and then a 37 year old Nedved had 7 assists?
Something not right there.
Many more examples like that.
Really just seems like they didn't record assists properly.

There is no right or wrong as they are not officially defined as a goal. You just have to apply the same criteria to all.Khaled wrote:jiopsi wrote:Actually they were looser before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assist_(football)Le Samourai wrote:The assist stats, I've looked though them alot, and I have to say you consistently see less assists for players the closer you get to the turn of the new millennium.

Good example of this situation is Messi at WC10. Now which one you think represents players influence on goals better, 1 assist or 4 assist as above criteria? On average I think it's pretty clear that wider rules represents players influence on creating goals better.

Messi's Penalties: 35 scored out of 43.
Barcelona official games: 30 scored out of 38 attempts.
Argentina: scored 5 out of 5.
I think this infograph will help

I was thinking more along the lines of the CL only.I wanna find stats of penalties taken in the CL by players, but if that's not possible at least Messi and Ronaldo.

- Messi missed 2 of 7 penalties in the UCL (Missed vs Panathinaikos & Chelsea)
- Cristiano Ronaldo missed 3 penalties of 6 in the UCL (Missed vs Barca, Chelsea and Bayern)
sorry, I don't have such stats for other players...

Re: Most UCL assists since 2001/02
You know there were time when no one gave a damn about assists, all it mattered was who scored the goal. Well maybe its a way of trying to prove someone is better or its just the new obssesion, but i just dont think assist should be relevant the way it is here. Oh well, maybe football is about stats afterall.
