Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread
Well if you look at Chelsea tactics from when Di Matteo took over and the signings they've made since, something does not compute.Chelsea's success with Di Matteo was largely due to the 180 degree spin in tactics, and seeing the new entourage in the blue shirt clearly indicates Chelsea are heading to a different approach in the coming season. These are the players you sign when you want to outplay your opponents, not close them off. What bothers me is that I wanna know whose idea this is...Is it Roman wishing for attractive football (which is more likely IMO) or did Di Matteo decide to change the winning formula and head over to unknown waters of possession football.I'm not familiar with his tactics at WBA,if someone could shine some light on that would be great...It would make sense if he played positive football at WBA,and opted for negative football at Chelsea because that was obviously what needed to be done seeing AVB's failures, but if he used negative football in WBA as well then I'm inclined to think Roman is making another mistake in going against his managers nature...
How much control does Di Matteo have over these transfers?

Yeh that's what I'm thinking. For all we know Di Matteo could turn out to be a generic manager #101 who could get sacked. So it'll be interesting to see how he manages all the young attacking talent, instead of relying on experienced old players.

Im certain Di Matteo has no control over transfers whatsoever. His job is only man management, tactics and to win trophies. Abramovic is the one who decides what players should play for the team.

Abramowitch signed players they really needed. I don't think he signed them on a whim. If they get a rightback their squad will be complete.

Re: Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread
Look at all their signings this season Is there any manager in the world who is going to say no to these signings?
Who else would Di Matteo buy? Apart from the RB, they are well covered in all defensive positions.
So how do these signings show that Di Matteo does not have any say in the transfers?

Re: Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread
Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs has confirmed the club are close to signing Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne on loan.
"We have had several meetings with the club and the player over the last month, and negotiations have now advanced," Allofs told Kicker. "Things are looking good, but there is no agreement in place yet.
"We hope to have the agreement sorted out next week when Chelsea return from their training camp in the USA."

Re: Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread
Is this a group of players that AVB could succeed with?
Anyway, as I see it they've only really signed wingers, some of which can play as AMs, but not really capable CMs who can exert themselves and control possession. So I doubt we'll see a drastic change in their style.

And to answer your question, Vibe, RDM played some good attractive football at WBA. He does know how to win in style. That said, when all is failing and plan A, B & C are not working, he uses defensive tactics. He used defensive tactics towards the tail end of his time at WBA in certain matches.
So in general, he knows how to use both brands of football.
I don't see how this is a problem.

I doubt AVB would succeed with the current Barcelona team, tbh.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Is this a group of players that AVB could succeed with?

Im pretty sure Emellano the director of football am sure i spelt his name wrong, he is in charge of most transfers. But its safe to say there is a lot of dialog between him and the manager, AVB picked Romeu Mata Merelies l. Whilst the Belgium contingent was probably allo Michael doing ie De Bryune.
Am sure though Di Mateo asked for a RB and some wingers.

Well there's no point in signing someone if the manager does not want to play them/want to sign them so I'm sure RDM had some say in things.

Re: Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread

Emanelo is the one who signs the players RDM wants, Roman just hands out the money should he like the transfer.
You guys honestly think Roman is controling the transfers? That would be stupid of him because he isn't the manager. I understand he does buy a player every so often but hardly ever in the grand scheme of things.

these are not di matteo signings, or at least they are counter productive to the tactics that brought him so much success last season.

Re: Roman and Di Matteo ( What is Chelsea doing ) thread
awww how cute, you all actually think most clubs give full control to the manager these days
fact is most club's have a panel consisting of probably 4 to 5 people with different roles to discuss transfers.
The manager has a say of course he does, it wont be full control but control none the less.
Gone are the days of the manager controlling everything from top to bottom at least in most cases.

Well that's the difference between a manager and a coach, right? If DM has no final say over signings, then he's just a coach.

A coach works as part of the manager's team?

WBA either used to play some quality football or got completely thrashed under RDM. But they played Attacking football.
