Re: Is it worth it?
He wants to leave fair enough.... but I'm not getting this "leaving for trophy" thing. He never complained about trophy's when he couldn't complete a half-season for 5 straight years, in those moment he was telling how much he loves Arsenal, that he couldn't imagine himself in another shirt and how he would never join a club like Man City (he said that
)
It's fair enough to say he wanted a bigger check because it's his last long term contract but this leaving for trophy's is complete bull.

Re: Is it worth it?
When you pretend that you are Arsenal for life then some people are going to be pissed if you leave lol
Anyway there is nothing wrong with wanting to get paid and win but you can't act all surprised when you find out that you've burnt a few bridges.
Not everyone is a Totti or a Higuain.

Interesting how none of those were ever as good as they were at Arsenal...Bar maybe Clichy.

The main reason he is leaving Arsenal is for trophies itself..

They weren't as good because they were surrounded by other stars imo.

greed? its driven by ambition.. why do you think podolski joined arsenal? out of the goodness of his little heart or because hes getting 10x more exposure and a much bigger chance at a trophy than with koln?
so if youre going to scold players for leaving clubs youre going to have to realize players do this all the time - thats the point of the transfer window.
You can't be serious about comparing Podolski leaving a relegated Bundesliga side with Van Persie leaving Arsenal...
isnt it even more relevant then? podolski left his HOME TOWN club to be relegated for arsenal.
the point which i see you failed to understand is that if you are going to scold rvp for leaving arsenal for trophies than you might as well have a thread about every transfer of all time and berate them for leaving.
everyone is putting this transfer up on a pedistal as if it were different than any other player leaving his club for a better chance at winning trophies.

Why didn't he leave when Cesc, Nasri, Clichy, and Eboue left?
He saw how much they getting paid and there is a chance he can win a trophy.

Not every player is a club captain trying to force a move to the rival club next door.

These things are supposed to mean something...

Is there some sort of unwritten rule saying 'players who have been at a club a long time can't move without controversy?'

Those are a select few, who really don't fit the trend of the modern day athlete
Honestly, I agree with everything that you have said in this thread but it just isn't realistic today and that's unfortunate.

Totti has won a Scudetto along with numerous Coppa Italias ,is a world cup winner and was/is paid handsomely at Roma plus most importantly he a Roma youth product..

The guy has been with Arsenal for like 8 years. He has given 100% when fit...he has given them his all, carried the team on his back last season. The guy is coming to the end of his career (striker terms). He has maybe 2 or 3 years at the top to achieve as much success as he can before he ends up in the mls or dubai somewhere playing vacation football.
Loyalty is out of the question with RVP in this case, it's more a case of ambition.

-Maybe it was because he was younger?
- Maybe because it was out of respect and he wanted to pay Arsenal back by completing a full season.
- Maybe it was calculated and he knew by having the season he just had, Arsenal would get a huge offer for him, thus enabling the club to replace him.
or maybe he's just come to a point where he's had enough of achieving f*ck all at the age of 29 with Arsenal, and is finally thinking of himself and his career?

Re: Is it worth it?
Let's just cut the crap. He's leaving for dem green papers.
Ambition
Why did he even try to negotiate a new deal if he was planning to leave because he had "ambition"...How come it was after the contract meeting he decided the club and him had "different ideas about where the club should go".
Ambition

No it was because no one wanted him that time, he was an injury-prone trouble maker.

because wenger has promised to bring in top shelf players and he brings in gervinho..
rvp obviously would ideally stay but not at the cost of being trophyless his entire career.
