Is it worth it?
I really thought this one was different...Anyway,what he is giving up is more than what's he gonna get IMO.He's been at Arsenal since 19,now at the peak of his career and as club captain,a couple of seasons more and he would have went down in history. He's giving up immortality for a wage bump and maybe a trophy or two.And that is not all he's getting...He's also getting the money whore label and the traitor status. And losing lots and lots of love...
Not worth it IMO.
Not worth it IMO.

i really don't care about him anymore . no one should be bigger than the club.
i don't mind him leaving , just expect us to buy a WC goalscorer but this isnot going to happen

Because he could have been an Arsenal legend for life and he's gonna have a silver bowl instead? And the trophy isn't even guaranteed...

Re: Is it worth it?
He wants to win, whats the big deal?
Unless your an Arsenal fan, I dont get why one would care so much.
Everyone has ambitions, everyone wants to win, he doesnt think he can do it at Arsenal and at age 29 his time is running out.
Greater players than he have done the same and will do the same in the future.

Re: Is it worth it?
A shame really... his reputation has hugely dropped among Arsenal fans. There's still hope he'll leave the EPL and not join one of our rival clubs, that would cause even more hate than for Nasri - the captain of a club joining a direct rival club

Re: Is it worth it?
Him leaving would be good for everyone IMO.
They already replaced him with Podolski and Giroud and Walcott pretty much demanding to be a striker, they have more pressing needs, sell him for the most money you can get and sort out more pressing issues.
Even without him if you make some apt signings , this is the first time in about 3 years I'd give Arsenal a legitimate chance at the PL.

He will probably be able to make around 4 million more than if he was at Arsenal by the end of his career. I dont see anything wrong with that to be honest.

Leaving for trophies is as bad/good/equal as leaving for money, imo...both are driven by greed. People should stop saying things like "he left for trophies and not money" or "he left for money" because it is the same.

Re: Is it worth it?
even if he would have stayed at arsenal the rest of his career there is no way he would have been considered a legend..
hes not among the likes of henry bergkamp or even cesc for that matter
if he wants to leave for trophies, let him.. hes done enough.

It really is, it's sort of funny because the teams that are winning trophies are also the ones capable of increasing wages for a player like RVP
Anyways, I don't see a problem with RVP leaving. He could be an Arsenal legend, sure, but that's his choice to make

Re: Is it worth it?
yes it is. If someone offered you more money and more prestige won't you uit your job? This whole fan thing is BS. If i was playinng for Arsenal and Madrid came calling i would force the move. Madrid are the most prestigous club in history which is why i cant ever fault ronaldo tbh

greed? its driven by ambition.. why do you think podolski joined arsenal? out of the goodness of his little heart or because hes getting 10x more exposure and a much bigger chance at a trophy than with koln?
so if youre going to scold players for leaving clubs youre going to have to realize players do this all the time - thats the point of the transfer window.

You can't be serious about comparing Podolski leaving a relegated Bundesliga side with Van Persie leaving Arsenal...

Don't understand the flack he's getting. The guy is 29, he wants to show something in his cabinet other than a FA cup medal. He obviously feels he can achieve more by moving, and judging by Arsenal's trophy count in the last 7 years, he is entitled to feel that way.
I don't undertsand the hate he is getting.

Re: Is it worth it?
Let him leave. As if it is a guarantee that he will win a trophy when he does (well maybe yes, but it is up in the air). Arsenal has Giroud and Podolski at disposal and RVP leaving is really not a problem as one shrewd signing would solve it.
He'll not even be a legend at Arsenal even if he stays.

exactly. cesc did the same, henry did the same, viera did the same. Footballers (bar gk) have a short lifespan ffs. Get over it. I'd do exactly the same thing.

Re: Is it worth it?
How would he be considered an Arsenal legend if he didn't play a major part in winning major trophies there?
And what Jibers said. Loyalty is overrated. Being a club legend is overrated. He left a club that lately seems too much like a selling club for a club with ambition, it happens all the time and it's the right career move.

Re: Is it worth it?
RVP is at age where he wants the maximum money and he knows the mega rich clubs can offer him that. The big money is guaranteed but not the trophy, the reason many Arsenal fans are not happy with is the way he went public and betrayed Arsenal.
He is a great player but going to a new club will not be easy like many other Arsenal players who left and all regret their decisions. We have already replace him with 2 players and dont really care where he goes.

I agree, he is the last Arsenal player we all thought would do what he did, worse than Nasri. Money is the root of all evil and the agents are no helping.
To those comparing RVP to other Arsenal greats you have to be kidding me, he has not done anything for us like others have.
