I've only seen part of it, for some reason. I've heard good things - seems like a classic - so I'll try to get this movie, some time soon.
It is one of the better teen-movies i have ever seen. Classy.

sam mendes after watching No Country For Old Men... hmm.... he would make a hell of a villain for my bond movie... skyfall... Very Happy

It is highly possible that javier will make us love the villain more than the hero like heath ledger did in the dark knight bounce

Nah. They should still continue and see how it turns out. Interested in the Last Battle if they continue making the series.

I havent read the series...it is supposed to be much better than the movies, right? Anyway as they are children's books, it is too late to enjoy them...
Are they better than Harry Potter?

Post by CBarca Mon 16 Jul - 7:00:22

Let's see. Recently I saw...

Goodwill Hunting- a great movie with a young Matt Damon and Robin Williams. Been a long way coming, my watching this movie, and it didn't disappoint. Loved the movie, one of the better movies I've seen recently, and the soundtrack was great, Elliott Smith may you Rest in Peace Heart

Garden State- Admittedly my second time seeing this movie, but still. Another great movie that flies under the radar, Zach Braff is a boss. Not the best movie I've seen, but it has its moments and with the budget it was filmed on, it was great. So many movies can go wrong with a comedy-drama, but this one manages to do both relatively well IMO. And a GOAT soundtrack... one of the best I've heard.

Zelig- a 1983 Woody Allen movie. Pretty good...not one of his best IMO but still pretty funny, as Woody Allen does not really ever disappoint, at least, not that much. Very odd movie- as it was like...I don't know if this is an actual term, but "mockumentary". It was in documentary style even though it was a comedy movie. Very interesting. Woody Allen is a GOAT, nuff said.

Anyone see Pi? I'd like to see that soon.

And anyone recommend a couple good drama movies? I'm a sucker for a good drama to be completely honest.

Off the top of my head and in no particular order:

The Best Years of Our Lives
The Razor's Edge
12 Angry Men (Lumet's original with Henry Fonda)
Judgement at Nuremberg
Inherit the Wind
On the Waterfront
The Deer Hunter
Kramer vs. Kramer
Five Easy Pieces
Network
Dead Poet's Society
The Mortal Storm
The Human Comedy
Atlantic City
Born On the Fourth of July
Body Heat
Missing
Lean On Me
Mississippi Burning
On Golden Pond
Raging Bull
Stand By Me
Rain Man
The Year of Living Dangerously
Prince of the City
Witness
Terms of Endearment
The Untouchables
Touch of Evil
City That Never Sleeps
They Live By Night
Out of the Past
Night and the City
Double Indemnity
In a Lonely Place
Laura

That's all I can think of for now.

Edit: While I was in the shower, I thought of some great ones from the 1970s:
Serpico
Dog Day Afternoon
Chinatown
The French Connection
The Conversation
Straw Dogs
The Last Picture Show
The Candidate
Klute
The China Syndrome
Badlands
And Justice for All
The Long Goodbye
Fat City

We need more people like this! +1 man, +1, thanks a bunch, anytime I'm bored I'll come back here and check off a movie from that list.

Watched Pi last night. It was alright. Very clearly a Darren Aronofsky film, and saw a lot of parallels between Pi and Requiem for a Dream. Didn't exactly follow all of it though. For a movie on a $60,000 budget, it was impressive.

No problem guys. Hope you'll like most of those anyway.

By the way, I saw Moonrise Kingdom the other day. If you like Wes Anderson's quirky indie films (Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, The Life Aquatic, etc.) you'll probably like this one.

What range are we talking about for new? I would consider Dark City (1998) and Gattaca (1997) to be fairly new, but you may not.

But here are a few from about the last 10 years....

Inception
Minority Report
Moon
A Scanner Darkly
Star Trek (2009 reboot)
District 9
I Am Legend (although the ending being changed from the book bothers some purists)

I'm really hoping that the Total Recall remake coming out in a couple of weeks does justice to the original (which is my favorite Schwartzenegger film). I'm always wary of remaking films that were excellent. The remakes rarely measure up. But once in awhile they pull it off.

Oh I totally forgot to mention I saw this the other day. Talked about it before and how excited I was to see it and it didn't disappoint. I don't know much about Wes Anderson (never really watched any of his movies) but Moonrise Kingdom was one of the better movies I've seen recently. Quite funny, quirky, and interesting.

Then again, I'd love anything with Norton, Murray, Willis, and McDormand, but this movie was class all around.

Sunshine ( 2007 )

Equilibrium ( relatively old, but one of my favorite sci fi movies to date )

Cargo ( 2009 ) , haven't seen it yet but I have it lined up since it has some fairly good reviews. Another that I'm gna watch is "Event Horizon" but that's relatively old as well.
