Re: Thorgan Hazard
If a talented young footballer hears the phrase "a chance to establish himself at Chelsea" in a dream, he wakes up screaming and sweating

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Well, yea, that's something that has been discussed in this section in the "Looking at the longterm future" thread and in many others.Hapless_Hans wrote:If a talented young footballer hears the phrase "a chance to establish himself at Chelsea" in a dream, he wakes up screaming and sweating
However he's our most talented player on-loan and could very well fight for Oscar or Willian's place as 3rd and 4th AMs next season, so he has solid chances to establish himself at Chelsea, more than anyone else we have on loan.

Thorgan Hazard has today signed for Borussia Monchengladbach, with Chelsea having the right to exercise a future buy-back option.

Some good news at least. And interesting news as well. Club don't usually do buy-back clauses so they must really rate him.

I wonder when that "future buy-back clause" will be active. Sounds like it won't be right away.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
I don't really believe there is a buy back option... kind of sounds absurd. But nonetheless could see us do a matic on him and make him our second prodigal son

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Out of curiousity - wasn't the original end of Thorgan Hazard's contract in summer 2016? So I wonder about the buy-back option - wouldn't that mean it has to be executed before 30 JUne 2016 or can it be put somewhere later, too? I'm not quite sure how this works in such a case.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Believe buy-back options customarily mean that the initial selling club has first refusal if the player's current club are intending to sell him (a la Fàbregas and Arsenal last summer).

Re: Thorgan Hazard
It's probably a right of first refusal (cesc/arsenal) rather then a buy back clause (Bojan/Roma and barca)

In truth the Bojan to Roma deal was a glorified loan, but that's another story

Re: Thorgan Hazard
So according to Bild, Thorgan's buy-back clause expires at the end of this year.
In my opinion, the decision about activating it is more than just whether or not we have room for him.
If we activate the buy-back, We'd likely leave him at BMG until next season. Which means BMG will lose both Thorgan and Christensen at the end of the season. We'd get two good young players, with Thorgan able to play anywhere across the frontline effectively. An excellent replacement for Pedro if we were to sell him. Or we could sell him on for more than the 15m Euros.
This would inevitably annoy BMG as they want to keep both players, thus almost entirely destroying our relationship with them.
However, if we don't activate it, BMG would be more likely to take our players on loan, even if we take Christensen back.
So the question is; do we take Christensen and Thorgan back OR do we try to maintain our business relationship with BMG by letting them keep at least Thorgan?

Re: Thorgan Hazard
If he's performing well enough that Chelsea would be genuinely interested in bringing him back, I can't see a scenario where he'd turn that opportunity down. But who knows

Re: Thorgan Hazard
I think we'd want him for depth purposes, where he is more often than not a starter at BMG.
So I can understand him wanting to stay, but we shall see.
