Re: Thorgan Hazard
I would love to see Eden and Thorgan playing together in a game.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Yea it would be memorable
Kudos to Emenalo/whoever bought him as well. I thought it was a move to favour Eden's signing similar to Neymar's dad etc, but it turns out he can actually make the first team.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Well, from what I last heard, Thorgan Hazard can well imagine staying at Borussia M'gladbach, and it seems that Max Eberl is working on making the loan a permanent signing.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
From what I've read, Thorgan just wants stability, not loans.
Therefore, he'd take stability at either club, which is a good call.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Well it is a normal loan, so the last decision is ours.
If he's deemed to be good enough to be in our first-team next year as reports suggest, then we should keep him, otherwise we should sell him with a buy-back clause as he clearly showed potential.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Out of curiousity, does anybody here know how exactly buy-back options work? I mean, if you put a buy-back option into a contract and the club would like to buy back a player - would the player have to go along with it or can a player say "No, I don't wanna go back"?

Re: Thorgan Hazard
It's my understanding, drawing on deals like this that have come up at other clubs in the past, that it's in the event that the new club were intending to sell the player, the club who sold him to them in the first place has first refusal on his signature (like Fàbregas and Arsenal), but of course it's completely in the discretion of the player himself if he'd like to return or not even if the former club does want to exercise their option.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
It's not always like that. For example when Carvajal was bought by Leverkusen, Madrid arranged a prize to eventually buy him back, usually it increases as the seasons progress, and for Carvajal it was 8,5M, 10M the second, 12M the third etc. Or Juve sold Zaza to Sassuolo with an arranged buy back prize of 15M for the end of this season and 18 for the end of the next.
I guess it never happened that a player with a buy-back clause didn't want to return to his former club because he accepted the eventuality when he signed it, and usually if a club wants to buy you back after they dumped you it's because you're going to be a first teammer. For example Carvajal, or our own Matic and I remember that Reus was kicked from Dortmund and then he decided to join Gladbach.
But in the eventuality that a player doesn't want to return a new contract still has to be made, so if he doesn't want to return he won't.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
I see. Thanks! It's fascinating anyway. I think in the Bundesliga this buyback stuff is rarer than in the Premier League and I first really noticed it in the Carvajal case. And I always wondered about this "first refusal" thing, too.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
We had a buyback clause an Can, that's why the transfer to Liverpool was tricky as we had to give our blessing I guess.
Dortmund have a buyback clause on Bitencourt I think.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Yeah, some do exist, but I think most I heard of were in Spain, actually.
To get back to topic - I'm curious how Thorgan Hazard's future will pan out. From what I read, the guys at BMG would really like to keep him for longer, even though he is by far not the finished product yet.
IMO he would not get into the first team yet at Chelsea if recalled by them, and I'm not sure how good it would be for his development if he wouldn't get enough proper playing time.

At this stage, the only three attacking midfielders worthy of playing for us, is Hazard, Willian and Oscar.
Schurrle and Salah have been poor this season, Salah probably won't be around much longer and Schurrle is tipped to replace Reus at Dortmund.
So I could well see him getting gametime at Chelsea.

Mourinho on Thorgan:
-
— via the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle
-
-
“He’s a good player. A player we like. He’s one of the few players that I travel to see play live.
“We like him very, very much but there is here one player ahead of him who is not bad called Hazard. Eden.
“The best decision was for him to go to Gladbach. Also Bundesliga is good for him to play. We’ll see what happens.
“They [Eden and Thorgan] can be in the same squad and even play in the same team, one in one side and one in the other. We have Eden, Schurrle, Oscar and Willian, we have a lot, so it is better for him to play.
“What is going to be his future? Is he staying? Is he coming back? Does Borussia want to buy? Do we want to sell to make money for financial co-operations? This is something we have to see step by step.
“If we don’t need [to sell] I don’t want to. He is one of the players we have on loan that has the potential to play for Chelsea one day.”

Sounds like everything is still very much undecided. So we shall be curious what the future will bring - for sure he will become a very fine player in due time.

"We are still in discussions with Chelsea."
"The fact of the matter is that Thorgan would like to stay here, Chelsea can see a transfer happening and we want to sign him."
"All three are very positive signs, so we will try to come to an agreement and hopefully get a contract agreed."

Re: Thorgan Hazard
I favour the traditional route of bringing him back, deciding he's not good enough after 64 minutes on the pitch sometime in September, and selling him to Wolfsburg for £20m in January.

Re: Thorgan Hazard
Well, he's clearly got the potential to be a very good player, but he's much more likely to fulfill it playing regular gametime somewhere else than at Chelsea ATM, so selling him with a buy-back clause is the ideal choice in my opinion.
If what BMG wants is an outright buy without any clauses, then I'd prefer us to give him a chance to establish himself at Chelsea before selling him.

If a talented young footballer hears the phrase "a chance to establish himself at Chelsea" in a dream, he wakes up screaming and sweating
