Obviously I'm talking tongue and cheek about what you think is "muscular"... Some how the guy with a bird chest doesn't know when someone is making fun of his definition of size or even what anaerobic means

Re: Ronaldo and Nani
As for those who really want to know how Ron trains, it's probably about 18 hours after a match or twice a week, total body, explosive, compound exercises in circuits. Unique to him (for a footy player), he prob does 15-20 mins of beach (arms, traps, abs) at the end or just on separate days altogether after training. A shoulder and arm w/o prob won't kill you're performance in a cdr match. The key is to get consistently stronger, the size will come and eat more GOOD food than you think you need and never and BAD food.
Funnily enough, Ronaldo got so much slower and less explosive and agile after he put on those 30 lbs of lean muscle at ManU. Oh wait...

I don't even...
Why are you so angry dude? its a simple thread, no need to have a bitch fit
Both Nani and CR7 have a pretty developed upper body compared to most other football players and likely do some form of weight training for their upper body
Dont understand why your so angry about it. Theyre clearly not body builders but Im pretty sure its obvious they hit the gym, no one is born with overly muscular arms

Who said it was? that's a lot to do with the core strength Bruce Lee had.
All i said was you dont to lift a lot to get the standards some footballers go to most of it has nothing to do with lifting.
OP asked how much time they devote to lifting and the answer isn't very much tbh.

Well, I have a friend who plays 2nd division (derby county), and he told me they lift every day. I guess it could be different from team to team?

Re: Ronaldo and Nani
yea, but every club has its own fitness standards. Its both Cardio and weight lifting tho. Mostly you can see most of the empahis put to Cardio.Giggity5313 wrote:Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Giggity5313 wrote:Again its not how big you always are. Weight training and bodybuilding are two different things
Lifting as an athlete just entails different things, different rep ranges, different sets- things that will improve power, agility and what not, not necessarily leading to an 8 pack and 18 inch biceps, it just isn't the goal

Re: Ronaldo and Nani
Yeah they lift.... i mean even Chicarito lift's lol.
What i meant is they don't lift heavy. Or at least the majority of them don't.
It's mainly used for core strength and toning than actual building muscle mass for the most part though.
And get like say Nani.... you don't have lift that much and when i say that you don't have to lift heavy.
They obviously lift, all the machines in the gym's at various club's training grounds would be a waste of time then. But you don't need to lift very heavy.
Also like Nameless said most of their time is obviously heavily based around a extensive cardio programme.

To get ronaldos body it takes approximately 1.5-2 years training. We have pretty much the same chest but he has more biceps on arms

I find that really hard to believe, unless it's like 10 min super intense complexes after training. And even then, that's excessive and only gonna be like an offseason/early season thing to get back in shape.
Most strength and conditioning for pro soccer players uses weights, but is really not focused on size. If they want size in the beach areas, they gotta do it themselves on top of all their training and adequately recover.

Re: Ronaldo and Nani
Football players cant allow being big. Getting a lot of mass with their cardio routine, matches, trainings is impossible, plus being big will limit their movement.
Football players do lifting though:
squats, calve raises, bench, deadlift, etc, for more than 10 reps.
CR is big for football player, he has awesome genetics no doubt about
Cheers

Tennis you get breaks all the time and long volleys really aren't all that common anyway
Tennis is longer and has more explosive and compound movements. When you're playing football you can somewhat adjust, rely on teammates etc, tennis, you stop the intensity, you lose.
Not true. I have played football all my life and I have played tennis a lot recently. I played 3 hours today and no way is it as tiring as football.
If your one of those players that just stand about on the pitch and wait for the ball that is understandable, but if put in the work then football is more tiring.

I actually found competitive swimming to be a bit more tiring than football (I did both, great way to lose weight/improve on cardio).

this, aside from people like puyol, hulk, which are decent to above average in term of gym, most are tiny and small compared to others.
Only CB/CF/DM and players who REALLY need to to be physical train upper body. Most either do so slightly, or just for core strength. You can't be a big guy and play with speed on the wings. It's not impossible but chances are, you have no acceleration, agility, or balance as those smaller ones.
