Marcelo vs Coentrao

Marcelo or Coentrao, who you prefer at LB?

Some think Coentrao's more balanced than Marcelo and should start in the bigger games. What do you think?

Well for a start. Coentrao can actually defend.

Somehow there's this idiotic notion that Marcelo can't defend.....his individual defense covering wingers and fullbacks is fine...it's above average actually..(against everyone other than Navas ).

Where he needs to work is positioning and stop being caught out of position and better track his runners, he always has to rely a bit much of tackling and try to make hero interceptions after he loses his man.

Corentrao is better in that regard , but only there and that's something that will come with time experience and intensive coaching from Mou.

Offensively Corentrao is simply inferior in every way possible.

For a start,coentrao was one of the main reasons Madrid didn't reach the cl final.just one week later Marcelo,the one who can't defend,had lahm and robben on his pocket while being influential in attack.some people don't get how important Marcelo is to madrid's game,hes the one who connects defense and the forwards.he also gets the best out of cr's game

Marcelo defended a hell of alot better than Coentrao did against Bayern fyi

Every loss last season Coentrao was a starter lmao

to me it depends on the game, there are some where Coentrao is a no-brainer, when the team has a pure touch-line winger like Navas but in games where you have a striker cum winger who cuts in onto his left, then its Marcelo

also if we want counters then its Marcelo but if we want a solid build up play then its Coentrao

When he's actually asked to perform that role he is as good imo

But 95% he is not playing LB

Coentrao at RB is still the best possible this Mou could do for our defense though. Coentrao is quite balaced and is actually pretty similar to Lahm.
