Another masterclass from Monty.

Oozed class and technique and toyed with the German midfield with his all round positioning on the field and delightful passes.

Prandelli's near blind faith is actually coming to bloom.

I didn't watch the game but that is great news to hear Montolivo is playing well.

frankly i didnt see this coming from montolivo .... gosh we should make him play like he has been doing for azzurri. play him as deep-lying playmaker with nocerino on the left, new midfielder in the right, with boateng as AM and dropping back and the diamond rotation style play that italy has been doing.

but omg pirlo, gosh he has been absolute killer the whole tournament and ever since he waved goodbye to us..

allegri & galliani, serious miscalcuation from their part, and now we have to live a life that inter has been living for a decade of regret and remorse letting pirlo go.... jeez...

I have to say that if he keeps up this form he will be a better signing than I thought he would be. He was very inconsistent with Fiorentina last season. Hopefully he becomes the next player in the recently established AC Milan tradition of joining the club for virtually nothing from a smaller club and suddenly becoming world class when playing for Milan.

great tournament for him. btw

italy will do better in world cup thats for sure, and with prandelli azzurri will get even better.

i m counting on youth as well like insigne veratti santon faraoni cristieg el sharawwy acerbi....

watch insigne tormenting and shattering every defense in serie a!!! lol for napoli loosing lavezzi aint a big deal... insigne is so much better than lavezzi. he will be one of the players to watch this season alongside veratti

It's amazing to think that this man was a hesitant deer caught in the headlights of pressure but a few years ago, timid in the challenge and lacking the will to assert himself on a game.

He's become an absolute warrior in the centre of the pitch, threw himself at everything throughout the match. Once harshly booked he didn't stop launching himself into tackles, he just made sure that he won everything. Simply a majestic player in midfield for us.

Regarding our Midfield/Forward line, would this formation be viable?

perhaps, but this would be an unnecessary change considering 4-2-3-1 has worked well recently.

Personally I don't see such a configuration helping the team, neither Nocerino or De Jong offer composure under pressure with the ball, whilst we essentially sacrifice the entirety of our width, whislt Montolivo is still best when picking the ball up from deep. It is also worth noting that defensive stability hasn't been a concern of the 4-2-3-1, as the pivot has worked well in each of the games where the formation has been used. Creativity remains an issue however, so I can't justify the inclusion of Nocerino for Emanuelson, who frustrates but fulfils a necessary role.

We require foremost a better option on the right wing, with either a three man or two man midfield, with Emanuelson only capable of the predictable cut-in. Within the squad, Boateng and Robinho can be afforded opportunities here, whilst if an extra central midfielder were to be included, they should be someone comfortable with the ball and possession vision to aid our build-up play. It would be difficult to utilise Bojan under such circumstances however.

Montolivo once scored a game winning goal in warm-ups

Pirlo is the next Montolivo

The only man Ignazio Abate fears is Riccardo Montolivo

Montolivo obviously has shown immense skill and put on exciting performances despite all the negative results.
In both the offensive & defensive part of his game , he has been a joy to watch.

I also think Allegri should give Monty more free kick opportunities . So far , he's been taking the ones from long distance. He should take these on the left side , close or wide range as well.
