Gervinhos role next season...
One of the most promising players on whom expectations were high.. Nowadays we dont talk about him..
Initially he was bought as a player who could start in the wing and play upfront if RVP gets injured.. And now we are buying Podolski who is thought to play the same role..
He started his Arsenal career well but then frustrated us with his poor decision making and finishing.. Eventually he was played substitute roles and Benayoun chosen ahead of him which worked well in the closing stages of the season..
Interested in discussing about him.. What role will Gervinho play in the team.. No question of playing the lone striker.. And with Walcott and Alex.. Gervinhos role will be limited to a second choice left winger.. Thats too bad for a player who was excellent in his previous club scoring or assisting about 25 goals a season...

Re: Gervinhos role next season...
Gervinho was never a lone striker and would be worse than the low-on-confidence Chamakh there.. He is best as a winger, or a supporting stiker (SS).. But we don't have a SS role in our formation/tactics..
Podolski is a player who has unparalleled on and off the ball movement (even better than RvP perhaps).. We will stick him in the wing mostly, given that Giroud is almost a done deal and will play up front.. If RvP leaves, then we will see Podolski also rotate with the ST role..
If RvP stays, then Gerv will provide some great cover on the wings.. He has had time to settle in and should now hit some good form.. He can play on both wings, and provide rotation for both Poldi and Theo (assuming he stays too).. And Alex will get super sub roles and odd starts as he continues developing.. Alex is still 18 and should be used only sparingly till he is about 20-21, so that we don't end up without another youngster with a season long injury..
If RvP and Theo both leave, then Gervinho will automatically be first choice on the RW and Poldi on the LW.. Giroud and Chamakh will rotate ST.. And we will see a 9th trophyless year.

Gervinho will see plenty of time. We'll have our usual injury crisis and he'll be able to come in and get plenty of playing time.
I think Wenger is going to move Chamberlain to the center of the midfield sooner rather than later anyways. It'll be Theo/Gervinho on the right and Podolski/Gervinho on the left.

Imagine this in two years:
M'Vila----Wilshere
Alex
(Ofcourse, Arteta and Rosicky would be old by then and reduced to bench roles)

Re: Gervinhos role next season...
It's true, he has potential, but until now that's all he has. We are stocked with "potential", many of whom are chomping at the bit for a chance to show what they can do. I love Gervinho's pace, and he makes well-timed runs, but his difficulty is in making decisions near the goal. Sometimes he shoots when he should clearly pass, and vice versa. It's not something that can be taught either, it's instinctual. I am not sure he will ever be as complete as his potential indicates. I hope he does, as he can be an exciting player to watch.
