I still remember the days when Serie A fans were claiming that Balotelli deserved to start over Eto'o at Inter and that, not only did he have more potential than him, he was already vastly better.

No there were a couple of Inter fans making those statements. I specifically remember Italian Fool making one of them (although not amongst the most preposterous ones, so I don't want to single him out).

Maybe he should actually take part in the next training session. That way, he won't be a steaming pile of doodoo when it comes to game time

Can I ask why they were doing sit ups and push ups in the first place? What purpose could that possibly have? If you're a professional athlete and you're representing Italy you better be in good shape. And if you're weak you should use your extra time to get some muscle at the gym. I just don't see the purpose of it.

They're not doing sit ups to get into shape, they're doing them for the purposes of stretching and conditioning

It's just included in conditioning, at football training I've often done push ups/sit ups with teams I've played for, personally.

Right but you should be conditioned enough, shouldn't you? Maybe I'm speaking out of my ass here, but I would assume a professional footballer could do the same as the US navy requirements? (ie: 43-60 pushups in 2 minutes).

Absolutely, but when you have a few days off in between games, they do training sessions. I'm sure it really is not that intense but they get the players moving, doing some jogging, ball work, etc. Keep them match fit
