Dutch Syndrom Part 99: Why do they choke?

Failing against Portugal yet again. 2004, 2006 and now. All the time.

They didn't take their chances. Van Persie was poor imo. Sneijder played well.

Their team needed more Pure CM.

They aren't playing like true Dutch sides should be playing.

Very poor tactical choices and shit defense.

There is no syndrome.

They possess an average tactician who cannot change in-game tactics. with a defence comparable to Ireland if not worse.

Easily the most overrated team within the "top teams"

Pretty much the entire forward line were way too individualistic if you ask me. Anyways I agree with Arq's and Art's assessment. The lack of a proper CM really showed today.

They aint that good......

they have a crap defense and have their front 4 have no chemistry

No decent CM for a 4-2-3-1, Not one single defender in that team that is good enough, both main goal threats couldn't finish if their lives depended on it, poor management etc etc.

I think the ego thing is an excuse now. It makes it seem like they had a squad good enough to win the EUROs if it wasn't for their arguments.

The truth is, they had a poor squad overall who argued like any other big team who keep losing their games.

CB - Bruma, De Vrij and Gouweleeuw?

CM - Strootman, Clasie, Leroy Fer?

LB - Pieters, Willems?

choking is one thing, what they did in 2010, euro 08 when they were actually great but faltered in the knockouts.. this is more to do with being absolute shit

Because of a DUD coach. I find it hard to believe that anyone can be worse than Willems. I think Emanuelson would have been better as a STOP gap arragement.

Anita,Clasie,Van Rhijn should have been selected & Strootman having 0 minutes is a shame.

BVM chose to go with a constant Old side bringing back older & older players & constantly dumping great young talent.

This model has already flopped with Italy in 2010 & France in 2008. Its a proven failure. Its time for Bert to leave.

Also Bert' shameless pandering to RVP has to stop. This is killing the team. RVP is bad as a Winger & VERY VERY wasteful as a ST who cant score & is never in the box. He is drawing it all leaving 0 service for Hunter.

He has had his moments,from 2008 to 2010 to 2012. Its time for him to step aside. He has flopped in all positions he has played. Oranje are not like Arsenal that we'll fight for 3rd place.

We need Guys who fight for trophies in here. We need NEW BLOOD. FRESH Blood,guys with soul.

Simply put, they are not a team. They have very talented players that play mainly for themselves. Big ego that does not mix up together.

I really dislike this dutch team, too dirty and too much individual. Good riddance.

The funny thing is, though, that this Dutch team was nearly completely the same that reached the WC final just two years ago.

True but that team rode it's luck alot. Sneijder scored alot of deflections from long range which made up for a lack of goals from the front men.

same names but very very different team imo.. sneijder was beasting with inter, robben and mvb with bayern..

now de jong barely plays for city, sneijder is about to be booted from inter, mvb is just old, robben has been awful for bayern in big games of recent times and rvp is just an absolute flop.

It needs Youth. Brilliant Youth whom Bert refused to play. 1-2 Youngsters stepping forward & doing great things. Not bad youngsters like Willems.

And I hope De Jong is tried at CB. With Anita,Clasie,Strootman we dont need him as DM maybe. I hope Bruma & Viergever are tried & maybe Ronald Brouwers or what his name his. Van Rhijn should OBVIOUSLY play.

That is it from the defense point of view. The defense should be given 1st Priority. That is so horrible. You cant even attack if your defense is this shitty.

Steke is good but Krul's upper ceiling is way bigger. I hope he is given starts consistently. The defense is what I am worried about. And a Good Coach. The rest is still good. This team came 2nd in the WC.

He was poor but an outright flop is pretty harsh. His form was poor going into the tournament so he couldn't have been expected to carry the team to a trophy, especially such a star studded team.

all the expectations of him being top goal scorer of epl, and missing such sitters and game deciding goals

especially with another very talented (and arguably) more suited stiker on the bench

yes he was an utter flop unfortunately.

I don't know what to make of this Dutch team, it's a shame Robben plays there only if he plays with much more stronger team like Germany or Croatia

the players are good enough (except for back line),Marwijk is just awful.


the double pivot failed, but then he stuck vdv in the central midfield. That's better than de jong + van bommel but still pretty stupid when you have Strootman on the bench. And to make the lineup work, he put van Persie as the SS/AM behind Huntelaar and Sneijder on the left wing Sneijder's workrate is non-existent and was clearly useless in that position
