Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
Capello had the highest win percentage of any England manager of all time, though Roy has incidentally the best rate of any manager with 75% at the moment, however having only managed four matches it's hardly a significant sample. I hardly see how anything you have said related to Capello is justified. The praise for Roy is deserved though, he's doing a good job.

He could very well be the best manager for England at this point in time. It doesn't mean I have to like the way he approaches football. I think he relies too much on keeping 9 players between the ball and the goal, attacking on the counter, and lumping the ball forward out of defense. These aspects breed a very negative, and aesthetically dismal brand of football. As someone not invested in the England National Team, I could care less if they are scraping out results. Roy's football is generally not fun to watch, and as a neutral lover of the game, this is a deal-breaker for me.

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
England beat a very poor Swedish side 3-2, and Roy Hodgson (who has won 2 Scandinavian titles in 37 years of management) is apparently a better manager than Capello.
No wonder people in England rate likes of Moyes, and Martinez as better managers than Rafa

England aren't the best side with the ball. Hodgson imo is pretty much playing to the strengths.

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
To have such an average pool of talent in the England camp and exclude talent such as Rio, Johnson & Sturridge is a bit puzzling to say the least. Even worse among such a group of ordinary technical players walcott has a bench role.
However I think roy is doing okay with what he's got to work with, which is pretty much average. Proven by the 1-1 draw with France the 35% possession shows the stubborn & rigid tactics he's using can work.
I'd say an average/good manager (roy) is suitable for this group of players, for instance give this team to guardiola and I'm sure he pretty much wouldn't have a clue what to do with them.

parker is super ovverrated mate,
Walcott is actually better from bench, Rooney got suspended, young has been England's worst player of the tournament so far..
So Woy has no other choice than to start
milner--------parker
Gerrard
bring in Theo to sprint with tired legs..
if only Wilshere was around

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
Are 4 games against nobodies and France really statistical significant to draw enough conclusions from it? Especially considering, as Ballack said, that England "parked 3 buses" at the hardest one of them?

With players like Hart,Richards,Cole,Lescott,Walcott,Ox,Rooney,Young,Welbeck etc..I think England have a more than decent team...However,In my opinion,Hodgson has done a good job until now but we'll have to wait and see until they face a real challenge if they qualify to the quarter-finals and see how they'll do.

Thing is if you take out what they did agaonst france and Sweden,,
Cappello would have lost, Woy gets the results right, which is what is needed.

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
The most ridiculous part of OP was that with Fapello England would have had zero points. REALLY ????
Also, Parker has utter gash so far. He does nothing either defensively or offensively. Parker's incompetence has caused Gerrard to play as DM.
Why Carrick wasn't invited is beyond me

England haven't parked the bus imo. Having 2 lines of 4 when defending is normal.

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
The thing is Roy isn't playing to England's strengths. England happen to fit the bill for Hodgson's preferred style. Trust me, he would play this way with the Spanish side if given the chance. He's all about setting up to maximize a weaker team to punch above their weight. It's the style of defending and breaking up play for the majority of the game, trying to make the most of any mistakes through quick, direct counterattacks. It's a legitimate style. It's merely a far cry from the totaal voetbal of the Dutch or the Tiki-Taka of Barca. Under Roy, England will play in a very direct style and will never be in full control of individual matches. They will, however, have a shot at taking points/matches from "superior" opponents.
As I mentioned, it's a very valid tactic. However, it has the connotation of an admittance of inferiority: a "small club" mentality, if you will. This is what got him kicked out of Anfield, not necessarily his record. If all the England fans are fine with that mentality, then more power to them. It's certainly a drastic departure from the stereotypical belief that England are destined for international glory.

mate lets compare the confidence in the 2010 WC to this one..
that team could crumble at any moment at the WC, Algeria took them to school, slovenia could have easily won that team..
Cofidence is what Roy has put.

yes, Really.. Cappello could not make England deal with through attack, Sweden would have easily drawn that match,,Cappelo would have started Walcott for a start mate( Roy knew the importance of his late added speed)

Re: Is Woy still " the bad Manager for England"
Capello had moments during his reign when the team looked far better than it does right now, except right now the current team is scrapping by and getting results. If Roy can lead them further into the tournament and see the team have some great performances (as opposed to barely good enough performances), then I will agree with aleumdance, but at this stage this thread is a bit of a hyperbole.
