Group D: France vs England discussion
France vs England discussion.
Speaking to reporters, Lloris said: “Carroll is very strong in the air, and Welbeck likes to drop deep. They have different characteristics and we can’t allow them any space.
"Our preparation was based on the game here. We have a lot of desire and determination. There is 24 hours to go.
“We will continue our preparation and we hope to get out of this match all that we give, and no regrets.”
France are currently on an unbeaten run of 21 matches and Lloris admitted that has given them a confidence boost coming into the tournament. But at the same time he feels it won’t have any bearing once they step onto the pitch.
“This series [of 21 matches without defeat] is important for our confidence,” he says. “But it doesn’t affect this match.
“Yet again, the group feels good, we keep training, and we are taking advantage of every moment on and off the field. I hope that tomorrow the adventure will start in the best of ways.
“There is a lot of serenity. The group is feeling good and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
The Lyon goalkeeper discussed France’s initial aims for the competition and said they are just looking at getting past the group stage, but not any further for the moment.
“What is a success in the Euros?” he pondered. “We aren’t thinking about that. Our first objective is to get to the quarter-final.
“After that, anything can happen. Everyone is fighting for the team and we all want to succeed."

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
I think Hodgson goes with Welbeck. I don't see Carroll figuring much, at least not vs France. you?

Carrolls a bigger target man if Hodgson wants to play long ball.

Yeah, I think Carroll should start the France game, England might need to play long balls if they are outclassed on the ground.

It's 2.5 hours to kick-off one of the biggest games in the tournament so far and we've got 4 replies in this thread?

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Lol. I got burnt out on trading barbs on this about 2 weeks ago.
England is going to park the bus and, given that the D is good and Hart is a good keeper, they have a good chance at getting a draw.
France have shown great form on the attack and seem capable of breaking the park-the-bus tactics.
In the end, if France score early, this may get ugly for England. If England can hold on until the 60-70 min mark, then it's anyone's game.
England will be the second side to play anti-footy in the tournament so far with Portugal.

France should win. England weren't even bad going into the tournament, but with all their injuries they're below Sweden based on talent IMHO.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
France win 1-0.
Hodgson will park the bus. He will start Welbeck, but insist on playing long balls to Ashley Young (Welbeck will have dropped deeper than Young, if you're wondering). Carroll will be left on the bench solely because Welbeck made a nice play against Belgium.
Lescott will make an error for the French goal. (I'm gonna say Ribery pressures him, wins the ball, and plays in Benzema for a tap-in.)
How's that for predictions?

chamberlain starts instead of walcott, meaning chamberlain debuts in an international tournament before walcott

Very impressive.
I wouldn't mind a random Malouda long shot for a goal just to pi$$ off Chelsea fans lol.

Excellent selection of Ox , Young, and Welbeck... Midfield is weak.

OX is the wrong choice, putting way too much pressure on a young kid.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
England atually have a reasonably strong defense and attack, the problem is the midfield has so little creativity it will destabilise the whole attack. Its a shame wilshere is injured but this is the problem when you have so little depth

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
the french team in weird, why no martin?
why is nasri playing when nobody in france wants him to play because he slows the tempo down?
why isnt clichy playing, when evra has been soo poor?
