Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
He's really not, especially as he rarely plays at his best without some freedom to roam a bit (something he would be limited from doing as the CF in Rodgers' system.Gil wrote:He's a much better fit in a Brendan Rodgers side than Andy Carroll.
Doubt Liverpool would be interested though neither would Dempsey since the odds of this current Liverpool side making the CL in the next 2/3 years are pretty slim.
We scored a fair few from set pieces last season, with Skrtel, Agger, and Carroll all providing aerial threats. Gerrard, Suarez, and several others in the squad also provide set pieces that are of a similar or better quality than Dempsey's. Also, the system isn't "one-touch". Nor would Dempsey been seen as an investment, but rather an expenditure due to his age and resale value.MarkForrest17 wrote:
True. I still think that Liverpool needs a set piece threat to score off of corners and such. He mostly scores off of set pieces. He has also greatly improved his free kicks also, While he may not fit completely into liverpools new one touch style of play with their new manager, I think they should probably invest in him. But if I was him, I'd want to play in CL now, and because they aren't in it next season and most likely, while I won't say its impossible, seeing as how Newcastle surprised everyone and came close to a CL spot, won't qualify next season either.
I'd go to Serie A and see if Milan or someone would want me first.

So would i, dont mean Liverpool should buy me though
As i said the only area where Dempsey really fits as first choice is as an advanced midfielder and if they buy Sigurdsson then theres really no reason for it.
Also about Newcastle, we wont be of no bother to Liverpool next season.... unless we strengthen significantly we wont finish in the top 6 and iam fine with that.
To finish in the top 4 Liverpool would still have to surpass the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs so its a big ask.
Also if Dempsey wants CL football then i will have to move abroad because no one in the CL spots in England will buy him IMO.

If Newcastle buy a few players then they can go for top 4 imo.

Dont underestimate how small our squad is and how the Europa League's extra games will effect us..... if we finish 7th i'll be delighted.

He may just be prepared to go to situation where he isn't a guaranteed starter. I doubt he would've made those statements without having taken that into consideration...

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
sSome great, knowledgeable points made so far.. thanks.
I don't know too much about PSG and it's probably just rumors but could that be an option for him? I know that he's a very ambitious player and competitive. With all due respect to FFC, it's no secret he wants out and on to new, higher level challenges.
I wanted him at Arsenal before we were trying to sign Arteta, who we finally got on deadline day. Dempsey is very versatile and could make a good contribution to any team. I would go as far to say that he would be a starter for us. He can play in the hole right behind the strikers, and would succeed in various attacking roles, if he has some room to work with imo
This article is interesting too. It talks about how he would hypothetically become a hit if he were to go to United, and the Glazer family, "American connections" blah blah.. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1207547-manchester-united-why-clint-dempsey-would-be-a-cult-hero-at-old-trafford

There's no other Downing.

Gil, are you Rodgers ?!
Looks like that's exactly what is he doing ...Replacing Carroll with Dempsey.

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
I really cant see Dempsey doing well as a CF or false 9 he just is'nt suited for it, everytime Dempsey played CF for Fulham he struggled to have the same impact.
He's an AM that scores goals, but a CF or fake 9 he is'nt.

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
It will be really funny if Liverpool cant adapt to Rodgers style of football and play sad football with all this talk about how we will line up/formations/tiki taka going on. Just saying. /frustration.
On topic, Dont mind Dempsey, Versatile and getting 20 goals from the midfield. Would much rather Liverpool get Dembele though.

that's weird because i think it's the opposite when he plays for the usmnt. but he should probably remain in an AM role if possible because that's where he's successful in the PL

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
Well how can Liverpool play him as an AM when that's Gerrard's spot?
A CF position may be all that Deuce would have to look forward to. That or a wide position and he struggles even worse there.

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
i.e. Some random fan got a picture of himself with Henry and made up a story about the owner of the club (who's admitted he's not involved in the transfer dealings) gave him inside knowledge on the clubs transfers. It was linked on twatter, therefore must be true.Schweini wrote:Apparently John Henry told someone at Boston bar that he'll be signing before the US Tour. Apparently 7M :facepalm;

hopefully he goes to Arsenal, but Pool is more likely. As long as he gets playing time he'll succeed. Has the mentality of a warrior

Although i do see what Red is saying if we signed everyone we have been heavily linked with we would have a CL worthy line up

Lovely exaggeration, I can see why you fancy yourself a pundit with insight like that.

In fairness, all pessimists believe the world really is every bit as negative as they portray it to be.RedOranje wrote:Lovely exaggeration, I can see why you fancy yourself a pundit with insight like that.

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
Which is really more negative:
A) My assertion that someone actually would probably make up a story and that there are, in fact, made up things on the internet.
B) The principle owner of FSG and Liverpool is in the habit of major business moves with random strangers and you can actually trust posts linked on twitter and the internet at large?

Re: Clint Dempsey's Future
But Dempsey's unlikely to feature as a midfielder for Liverpool often, so that's sort of a moot point.
