Re: Blatter wants to get rid of penalty shootouts
The idea of a shoot-out is to end a game that has already gone on too long relatively quickly. 11 v 11 would lead to games being that much longer. Can't see how that's a good thing.

Maybe you add an extra player on the pitch in extra time with the golden goal

Re: Blatter wants to get rid of penalty shootouts
Probably bias at the moment but I think at the end of the day PK's are a simple and effective way of finishing off a match.
The 120 minutes takes its' toll on the players and being expected to play on is silly.
Penalties bring in so many elements into them, combining mental strength and skill into a task that is very easy. Look at the way Bastian couldn't watch Robben take his penalty, look at the fact that Robben didn't step up to take one of the penalties. It's much more than just the physical and is where heros can be made.
Playing another leg is always a possibility but takes away from the "specialness" of a final imo.

Allow 2 extra subs (so from 3 to 5) in extra time for fresher legs + golden ball = epic matches in the making.

IIRC, the Golden goal wasn't a good idea. There was a reason that was abolished right away after it was tried out.

And what would the rational against golden balls be?

The Golden goal rule was originally thought to lead to more attacking football, but the contrary happened as the main objective was to avoid getting defeated by such a golden goal and thus the teams rather decided to park the airbus.BarrileteCosmico wrote:And what would the rational against golden balls be?

Golden goal was by far the crappiest rule ever in Football. You score any fluke goal & the match is over. No time bound nothing
