Re: *Best in the World series* - Who is the best AM in the World?
Its between Ozil and Kroos in my opinion. And like someone else already said, it depends on which style of.play this team will play. Kroos would be better in a possession based side but Ozil would be better in a counterattacking side. Also, the real question is, would it be better with Ozil/Kroos as the AM behind Messi, or Messi as the AM behind Gomez? Thats a tough one.

Özil. Threatful passes, direct play, nice assists and excellent vision. Helps the mark well too when it needs to. Really sets the pace of the mid.

In one like Bayern's where you have a very traditional attack and he plays in the hole just behind the striker.
Ideally a more creative striker than Gomez or whatever.
I think Ozil would stuggle a bit if he wasn't given that freedom to move into space and move towards the wings which you kind of lack when you have very traditional wingers who aren't comfortable replacing your presence in the centre,
He wouldn't find space as easily like against CSKA perhaps.
I think Cesc on the other hand knows how to stick to the centre , make the right runs, penetrates the defense a little better and is always looking for the goal.So he gives wide creative players an extra almost ghost target. They're both equally direct but they do it in different ways that would have varying effectiveness around different types players.
Anyway that's just IMO.
Cesc wasn't better than him this year but I'm not judging him on that , more of an overall assement of him over the years.

I would still take Silva over Ozil, eventhough he hasn't played his best lately.
People forget how poor Ozil was in the beginning of the season, he didn't play his best all season either.

Ozil was never poor, he had a few average games but it was well highlighted because Di Maria was stealing the show, everyone say how good he was again when Di Maria was out of the team due to injuries, he still has the most assists in Europe's top league for two seasons running!!

He didn't play well early in the season from what i remember especially against Malaga and Villarreal. Those and other games early in the season i didn't think he played well for his standard.
Ozil has been fantastic overall, but i feel when both on top form i would rather have David Silva.
But anyway i feel next season Mata will surpass all of them. :shisha:

Wouldn't count that Malaga and Villarreal matches, Ozil didn't even start those (rotation) & it was over before he came on.
It's true that Ozil didn't play his best all season, who did really? But I agree that Ozil was never poor, he just had too many non outstanding matches by his standard during the first half of the season and people weren't happy with that. And it's not because of Di Maria, who had a slow start himself and only stealing the show for about 2 months (end of October to mid December). Ozil has been the object of criticism even since Getafe match (second league game iirc) when Di Maria still in bad form. Much of the criticisms were way blown out of proportion though, before the break Ozil still had like 2 MOTM performances for the league (Zaragoza, Rayo Vallecano). Even in those matches where most considered him being mediocre like vs Getafe he still had important assist and started the counter attack for the winning goal. And despite struggling in the league, even during the first half of the season Ozil maintained his standard in CL and all his NT matches, had great matches vs Ajax, Lyon, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium.
After the break he trully took it to the next level though, played crucial role in many games where we're chasing the goal & won us important points including the one against Barcelona at Camp Nou that pretty much secured the title. Even in the lost matches againts Bayern he contributed important goal and assist.

Ozil had a massive dip in form in pretty much the entire first half of the season, while Di Maria stole the show, then Di Maria got injured and Ozil recovered his form.

Özil off form? I cant remember anything of that sort happening from the first half of the season. He was caught playing deep, because Mou ordered him to do. Why is Di Maria has been brought to discussion? Di Maria is superior to Özil only by speed and stamina, everything else Özil tops easily.

Mesut Ozil - Highest assist of anyone in all the major European leagues this year and people still say he had a ''poor year''. Shows how good he is then.
Ozil in last 5 years - ~130 assists for club and country in competitive matches.
Indeed, the best in the World.

Iniesta, Ozil and Silva Top three there. Though there is no point arguing with Madrid fans about whether Iniesta is better than Ozil because all of them will just say Madrid through stats when stats and play say no
