There will be a minute’s silence before all sporting events in Italy this weekend after a 16-year-old was killed by bombs placed outside a school in Brindisi.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) ordered the minute’s reflection, which will also be held before Sunday’s Coppa Italia Final between Napoli and Juventus.

A blast at the entrance to the Morvillo-Falcone school in Brindisi killed 16-year-old Melissa Bassi and injured at least six others.

It is reported four of those are in critical condition.

The reasons behind the bomb attack are unclear, but the finger of blame has been pointed to the local mafia, as the school was named after anti-mafia judges who were killed by bombs.

Saw this on the news. Saddens me to know that the mafia would do this to a kid. Bastards. Even worse is that my family is from Calabria which neighbors that region. Really makes the South of Italy and Italy as a whole look bad.
