Del Piero: 'I am so proud'
Alessandro Del Piero said his farewell was “an incredible moment, as my ties to the fans go beyond anything. I am happy and proud.”
The Juventus captain played his final Serie A match today, scoring a goal in the 3-1 victory over Atalanta and lifting the Scudetto trophy.
“It was an incredible moment,” he said of his lap of honour as tears flooded from people in the stands.
“My ties to the fans go beyond anything and I want to thank them. I am happy and proud today. It is an incredibly wonderful day.
“Of course there is also sadness, but it’s a moment to treasure, because I celebrated with the fans on the field and I cannot add anything more. I am truly proud.
“I am focusing on this because I don’t want to feel that sadness and I have to prepare for Sunday’s Coppa Italia Final against Napoli.”
Del Piero has stated he will not be retiring just yet, so could be heading to the American MLS or the English Premier League.
“There’s a lifetime ahead of me to work as a director. I am in good shape, I was born to play football and as long as I can do that, I’m happy.
“Would I like to play in England? I’ve always said you experience football in a fantastic way there. However, I haven’t discussed a transfer for 19 years, so I’m a bit out of the loop on what to do!”

Re: Del Piero: 'I am so proud'
Hopefully, he means as a director for Juve.
I know I say this fully expecting to get jeered, but I think the timing is perfect for Del P to leave. Agnelli doesn't deserve credit for the timing because he did not know we would win the scudetto, but the timing is right. He exits with a scudetto and Juve will, hopefully, sign a new number 10 to start next season in UCL and defending the scudetto.
Although people may not realize it now and I would prefer Del P to choose when he wants to leave, I think we will all look back on this as the perfect ending to his career at Juve.
Now, I am ok with this move if a couple moves happen this summer:
1. A new SS is signed.
2. A new CF is signed that will start over our current CFs.
3. The new CF or SS must be great enough to be worthy of wearing the number 10 so that we can have a new symbol for the club. Players like Buffon, Marchisio, and Chiellini are great, but we need a new attacking player that can wear the number 10 and become one of the faces of Juve.
Good luck to you, Del P.

I agree with every point here except that who can replace Del Piero now? I think we should take the number 10 out of the team list until we find an appropriate player. Who do you think should get the Number 10 for next year? Anyone we should sign?

Like the banners said, thank you for existing.
ADP must have a role at Juventus when he retires. This way it is a happy ending.

We will have to wait and see what happens in the market and we have to be open-minded about giving another player a chance to wear the number. We won't be getting another Del P, that's impossible and we shouldn't compare him to Del P because that's unfair to that player. However, I am pretty sure a great player will be coming in.
Agnelli is a smart business man. I assume that he doesn't make a move like this one without having a plan. I hope that the plan is to sign a great attacker this summer.

Although, I am very sad right now, I agree with you that this is the perfect time for him to go. He deserves to go out on top, and let's face it, even if we win the Seria A next year, we won't go undefeated. ADP stuck with us in the low points, and now get's to leave the conquering and invincible (this year) leader.
Now all he needs to do is score a hattrick in the coppa final, and sign for an MLS team near me, so I can keep watching him play, and invite him over for dinner
as for next year, i would not have anyone wear the #10 (one year only). this would not only be a sign of respect, but i think it also has a practical effect too. anyone who comes to juve, and puts on the jersey of ADP will have to play with the weight of the world on his shoulders. i think that would have a negative effect on anyone's performance...
if the player wants to write into his contract that in year 2, he gets to change to the # 10, that's fine... actually i just remembered one article, so i'll change my statement and say that there is only one person who can wear the #10 next year...Buffon.
anyway, thank you alex for everything... you are so much more than a captain!... good luck in whatever you do!
