Abolutely. Basel played maybe 30 minutes in the second half - before that it was only Molde. No one could have complained if they'd have kicked out Basel. Although I'm of course happy that Yann Sommer made good for his stupid mistake in the first half. ^^

(BTW, I commented on the match here: https://goallegacy.forumotion.com/t17865p54-fc-basel#668401 )

Wow, Lehman

Lehman and Handanovic are the most impressive next to Alves of course (interesting to see if he can keep up such a percentage as he faces more and more PK's)

BTW, I noticed that Yann Sommer's stats are pretty amazing if you look at just his last two years. Ever since he became Basels Nr.1 (which actually was last summer), his save percentage was pretty amazing (and this doesn't even account for two penalty shoot-outs in cup matches where he also won Basel the matches):

RWO, Khaled's numbers are from his time at Barca. Not Barca and Celta Vigo as well. There are 7 there in your stats which makes sense, as he'd have about 13 others from friendlies (including shootouts).

From those I can confirm he has only allowed 10/20. His stats are correct.

Okay, so it is a matter of which matches are counted again. I guess I'll better keep the data from the competitive matches then as I don't have the data for friendlies of the others and thus it wouldn't be comparable. Such a pity. BTW, I really would like to find an overview over all penalty shoot-out data, too, as that would be highly interesting, too.

Indeed, and shootouts are probably more important. This is why I'm confused by your Schwarzer data. You say he's only saved 2 for Australia? There are more than 2 that have gone down in Australian folklore let alone simple saves.

Well, this is what transfermarkt.de has about Mark Schwarzer: http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/mark-schwarzer/elfmeter/spieler_3357.html

My main problem is that I have to trust them there as it is not so easy to find verifiable data from not so well-covered leagues and/or NTs. Maybe some of the saves that are celebrated and don't show up in the list are from penalty shoot-outs?

BTW, here's the overview of the scorers for Australia: http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/australien/elfmeterstatistik/nationalmannschaft_3433.html - Looks like they are a power to reckon with when it comes to pens Very Happy

Hm... Considering that this list ( http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/australien/elfmeterschuetzen/nationalmannschaft_3433.html ) gives the shoot-outs Australia were involved in and Mark Schwarzer was there for a while, I looked up the respective stats for Uruguay ( http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/uruguay/elfmeterschuetzen/nationalmannschaft_3449.html ) and Japan ( http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/japan/elfmeterschuetzen/nationalmannschaft_3435.html ). In the case of Uruguay, two pens in the shoot-out of 2005 were indeed saved (or missed?).

Gahh. Why doesn't transfermarkt.de list the GKs in their list of PK takers, too (and whether it was a save or miss). That would make things much easier!

Glad to see De God is getting good numbers in that category too!

Yup. He was formerly at 6/43 and now is at 7/45, so there were two pens since the last update, one of which he saved. Here:

I didn't even expect Bernd Leno and David De Gea to have such a great percentage when it comes about penalty saves.

Also I am disappointed by Edwin Van der Sar - 13.33% (6/45) - (retired) but i was aware of his percentage.

BTW, I love those statistics, keep it up rwo power!

There are some keepers where I was astonished at the penalty save rates. I'm curious how some of the quotes will change with time - some of the guys haven't faced a substantial amount of penalties yet after all.

It is interesting how many young goalkeepers with potential didn't prove much when it comes about penalties.Of course, it is something different, it is like a lottery.

Not many GK's in the football history really had their own style improved with their own techniques that ended with great results.

Dudek, Buffon & Dida are known for having their own vision about penalties and the best way to 'kill' them.We also know Lehmann for using a different kind of tactics Very Happy.Jens, who saved two penalties (World Cup 2006 vs Argentina), was given a slip of paper before each kick detailing where the kicker was likely to put it.
__________________________________________________________________________________

Coach Oliver Bierhoff said: "He watched videos of all the penalties Argentina have taken in the last two years.

"He then consulted notes with our goalkeeping coach because you don't know who's on the list until the time."

Few noticed the move at Berlin's Olympiastadion, which was mastermined by Germany's Swiss-born chief scout Urs Siegenthaler.

Bierhoff added: "Before our knockout games against Sweden and Argentina we gave Lehmann information on the possible penalty takers.

"We then just told him to save two penalties, in case he forgot."

It seems they haven't added the data from the Peru - Argentina match yet, so I updated it myself for now. That is, Sergio Romero saved 5 of 18, making it 27.78% saves.

Well, you might want to check on Yann Sommer - since he is Basel's Nr.1, he saved 4 pens of the 8 he faced (not counting shoot-outs). And in the shoot-out vs Luzern in the Swiss Cup Final this year, he actually chose the right corner for all 4 pens, even though he managed to stop "only" two of them.
