Luis Gustavo
In my eyes, he is the best DM in Europe. On Wednesday, I'll have a closer look when he'll enter our slaughter house
Why?
All season long:
1. Clean tackling ( He could've been suspended against us but still played on the verge of yellow, broke up most of our counters)
2. He is fast and tall ( Masch worshippers)
3. He can't be outmuscled easily
4. Tactically sound
5. He is able to pass and shoot ( Biscuit worshippers)
This isn't a knee jerk, I followed him all season long. Gustavo is one of the most underated players in Europe. In return leg against Bayern, I'm worried more about him shutting down our counters than piggy or their wingers

Re: Luis Gustavo
He was a great buy imho, the only thing why a lot of people don't rate him is the fact that he was brought in when MvB left - and he's just an utterly different player. And I think many people miss MvB too much to notice what Gustavo brings to the table.
Or rather, many people would've liked a more destructive player, not that Gustavo isn't very good regarding defensive play, I just think a lot of people were still hoping for Vidal to break shins for Bayern.
Good player though, even chipped in with a vital goal once or twice. I like him. Very versatile as well, did reasonably well as a defender.

Re: Luis Gustavo
I will see your Luis Gustavo and raise you someone even more underrated and better:
Porto's Fernando
Re: Luis Gustavo
Yes, underrated but still no Vidal :vagi:
Nah, seriously. He's a good player and still young so he can improve. He's finding rythym and will from a great partnership with the Steiger for years to come.
I love his tackling. Crisp clean and not even tightbutted refs card him that much.
I agree with Viva in that he's no van Bommel, but he has other qualities that make him different. Bayern fans were expecting too high of him, but he has done just what is asked of him, IMO, sometimes even more.

Re: Luis Gustavo
I don't even think Bayern need a shin-breaker anymore, their style is fluent enough, and they got clean tacklers, their offense with Gomez, Robbery and Müller is frightening enough, they don't need a MvB-type player to hammer the respect into their opposition, goals will do that as well.

Re: Luis Gustavo
Only thing missing is MvB leadership abilities and his commanding respect on the field. Nothing got your ass into gear better than the MvB spilling his guts to you.
Not that Lahm is a bad captain or anything, he just applies a different type of leadership. It was just hilarious seeing MvB buy refs with pure charisma after two footing opposing players for fun.
Gustavo can pass that ball pretty damn well, if I might add.

Re: Luis Gustavo
Luiz Gustavo is a beast, for me he must always play against attacking teams.
He also always performs against big teams, Madrid and I remember when we played against Inter and he totally dominated Snejder in the MF.
Where is the nomination for the NT ?

Early Prototype was right. It's f*cking Bender.
Also known as Sven Bender, of Dortmund fame.
Here's what Google Image Search tells me he looks like:

Re: Luis Gustavo
Well, this is a reminiscence to the player Manni Bender who played at Bayern, KSC and 1860 some years ago (they are not related, though).

Re: Luis Gustavo
Well for me Gustavo is better than Vidal, I Love The way he Breaks attack plus he is very Good at Intercepting Balls. But I still think Tymo is much better with tackling probably The best tacket Out there
Re: Luis Gustavo
Busquettes and Vidal are better in my opinion. Although, Gustavo is impressive.

Re: Luis Gustavo
Second only to Vidal, but still extremely underrated, and an excellent defensive midfielder in all aspects. Tackling, versatility, passing, shooting, and hes even a decent dribbler for a DM, probably cuz hes brazilian.

Re: Luis Gustavo
His only flaw is that he Lösses possession easily When We are making difficult attacking moves, i still think he's better than Biscuit
Re: Luis Gustavo
Never rated the Biscuit, but I do agree that Vidal is superior.
Then again, Vidal is mostly superior because he's more complete, on pure defensive work they're almost equal. Vidal is more assertive and intimidating, which can be good on some days, Gustavo is cleaner, and possibly a bit more effective, defensively, which can be good on other days.
Vidal is clearly better going forward, but that's really not Gustavos job, so for Bayern it doesn't matter all that much. Obviously they still would've wanted Vidal, of course.

You have to be quite a force to leave the best Ukrainian player of all time out of job.
