Out of Contract in June 2012
We have a huge number of players out of contract in June, some are in their prime and some are clearly past it. This topic is going to come up repeatedly in the next few months, so I'm making a thread to put all rumours and info in now.
Nesta (36): Says he doesn't want to go to Juve, still a key player at Milan
Aquilani (27): Will be automatically re-signed if he plays 25 games, he has nearly reached that now
Muntari (27): Has had some good moments, but is not integral to the team
Maxi Lopez (28): Has been good when he has played, useful for depth
Flamini (28): Been injured all season, pretty useless when he plays anyway
Gattuso (34): Legend, been injured all season, 50/50 decision
van Bommel (34): Wants to go back to PSV, would be very welcome to stay though
Ambrosini (34): Legend, captain, passionate as ever but past it
Seedorf (36): Legend, still oozes class, but is unable to keep up with the tempo these days
Yepes (36): Has served us well as a squad player, time too make way for younger talent though
Zambrotta (35): Has clearly lost the speed, agility and endurance that is needed in his position
Inzaghi (38): Legend, sadly he's too old now, time to retire
Oddo (35): Back from loan, should retire
Di Gennaro (23): Back from loan, unclear as to whether he is part of Allegri's plans though, probably not
Roma (37): Time to make way for a younger player
Nesta (36): Says he doesn't want to go to Juve, still a key player at Milan

pretty stupid if gattuso and ambro both stays and much better van bommel is let to leave for free without proper replacement.

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
Really hope Seedorf and Nesta stay, everyone else in an ideal world would be replaced, but sadly that can't be done. I propose:
Stay:
Nesta
Aquilani
van Bommel
Maxi Lopez
Ambrosini
Seedorf
Yepes
Leave/Retire :
Zambrotta
Inzaghi
Oddo
Di Gennaro
Roma
Flamini
Gattuso
Muntari
If Van Bommel leaves than Gattuso needs to stay though. Other than that it's no-brainers IMO.

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
The only player that we HAVE to keep is Nesta. All of the others are replaceable. Unfortunately, you can't replace 8 players in one summer so these are the best options in my opinion:
Stay
Nesta (integral to the team)
Seedorf (on his day still incredible and useful to keep)
Van Bommel (He's a great DM and fills our anchor role perfectly. Could be replaced with a good purchase though)
Aquilani (good player, maybe not starting 11 material but solid nonetheless)
Maxi Lopez (good for rotation, solid player)
Ambro or Gattuso (purely for sentimental reasons)
The rest can go if it's possible to replace them.

You already have a big squad. It wont harm Milan if you released some players.

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
Seedorf, Gattuso and Ambro have to go. Yeah, on their day their good, but they seem to be on their day about twice a season. No more "one more season" contracts.
These guys are turning into bandaids we are too afraid to rip off.

Is that your honest opinion? What about Cassano, Boateng, Pato, SES, Nesta, and Abate? Nocerino, who is by no means a world beater, has been one of the most effective players in Serie A this year. Van Bommel is a beast when he's on on form. Abbiati is a really good goalkeeper despite his inability to clear the ball without gifting it right back to the opposition.
I'm not saying our team isn't flawed but which team isn't? Add a good DM, CM, and LB/CB to the squad and Milan can be considered on par with Barca and Real imo.

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
You mention 10 quality players here. 4 of those are strikers. Having 4 quality strikers and missing defensive quality where as you only point out TS and Van Bommel isn't a quality squad. I dont see Milan as a quality squad either. You rely on old players with routine and 1 star striker, Ibra. That's it......

I also mentioned Nesta and Abate. Nocerino provides some defensive hustle and Mexes isn't awful either. Our defense held Barca to their first scoreless game in 30 in the Champions league despite injuries to TS and Abate. That doesn't really scream 'lack of quality', does it? Juve's 'quality defense' hasn't been tested against Europe's top teams, a consequence of finishing seventh two years in a row I suppose. Our midfield's reliance on old players is well known but our defense and forward line is strong.
Our B-team has led the league for the majority of the new year while also competing in Europe, while your team was drawing more games than they could win. The ONLY reason Juve is ahead right now is because of the injury crisis that Milan faced this year. Anyone who denies that is kidding themselves. You have one quality striker and he's almost 40. The rest are mediocre at best. Your midfield is good but relies heavily on Pirlo. Marchisio seems to be a player that can do no wrong in Juve fans' eyes despite his poor form for most of the second half of the season. And your defense, well, Barzagli is having a great year, but it's the first great year of his career. I can't see him continuing like this. Your left back situation is no better than ours and Lich is solid if unspectacular. Chiellini is good but I'd take TS over him any day.
So I ask you sir, if Milan isn't quality, then what the hell is Juventus? (if you answer with unbeaten I'm not wasting my time with you. Drawing 14 games is nothing to fap to, despite what you Juve fanboys believe)

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
I can't believe I Juve fan can even say that Milan doesn't have quality players.
Someone just saying that will lead me into not even arguing with you, it will just be a waste of time. Ganso I am disappointed you feel that way about Milan as well, really.

Re: Out of Contract in June 2012
Out of all I would keep:
Nesta, MvB, Lopez, Muntari and Ambrossini.
If i had to cut it to three:
Nesta, MvB and Ambrosini
If one then
Nesta.
