Re: Olivier Giroud
Nobody is saying that he should not score against scrubs or anything. With a team like Arsenal, you guys definitely need someone to score vs scrubs, and it's good that Giroud can fill that role
Moal (and others) are just saying that he hasn't scored a whole lot vs top teams, and that's something he needs to fix.
Even of those top teams he's scored against:
Montpellier aren't exactly the greatest team really, but decent. Fair enough. Schalke- a good team. Nice. Tottenham- we were playing with 10 men. Newcastle are actually sunday league team if I'm not mistaken, and he scored when the game was pretty much done with, as moal pointed out.
I personally think he's done decently, but he still needs improvement and he needs to start scoring against the best. That should have started last week vs Man City and he missed a golden chance. Meh.
I'm speaking a bit for moal here so I apologize to him, I'm just trying to pick up where he left off here as I agree with him.

Re: Olivier Giroud
It's his first season in a new squad, surrounded by trash like Santos, Squillaci and Chamakh, as well as a bunch of mental midgets, so I can forgive him for not scoring in EVERY game against the juggernauts of the league
Again, I'm just pointing out, that, 3 months ago, when he wasn't scoring at all, people were writing him off as a pointless buy and that he'll be a flop, which couldn't be further from the truth

How many games has he played with Santos, Squillaci and Chamakh?

He's done very well so far... still think we need one more striker as we can't continue with one striker for the rest of the season - if he gets injured we're pretty much screwed.

Finally showing his Montpellier form. Good to see that. He is a complete striker, just took a bit too long to settle in.

5 ! with the 4 teams being West Ham, Tottenham, Fulham and Newcastle.....
Just pointed out that his stats are nowhere near as impressive as they seem.
So he's scored against 4 different teams and we are in January which have combined for 8 goals.
Nothing to brag about really.
Oh and yes we have been playing like sunday league scrubs this season lol.
PL Games started 13
Substitute appearances 9 with many of them being 10 mins cameo
Goals 8
How is that bad ?

Walcott is good, but I think Arsenal may still be paying for potential. I'm not sure he's worthy of 100 k a week if that reported figure is indeed true.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:I never said it was bad i just said it wasn't bump worthy

As for Giroud, he's certainly not a flop. He is getting into the correct positions and scoring goals. I believe he's on 13 for all competitions with Arsenal. The more accurate criticism of Giroud might be to say he's not the striker Arsenal need. At the very least, he doesn't appear to be the striker Arsenal want.
I always thought he was an interesting choice for Wenger due to his style as a bit more of a poacher #9. I don't think anyone here would argue that Giroud is a stylistic replacement for Robin Van Persie. RVP was dropping deep, directing the attacking play, and still getting on the end of almost all of Arsenal's chances. He was a COMPLETE forward in every sense of the word. Giroud very much is not. He's far more likely to hold-up play, lurk in the box, and just try to be in the right place at the right time. That’s not necessarily a slight against him. It’s merely a stylistic difference. The problem comes in how Arsenal play around him.
In the beginning of the season, Arsenal seemed to want to push the ball forward to Giroud and wait for him to create a chance that the team could then build upon. This tactic worked very well with a complete forward or a creative forward. However, with a poacher the chances need to be created by the players around him either by movement, crosses, forced saves, etc. They appear to be adjusting to that now with Podolski and Walcott antagonizing defenders, allowing Grioud a little more freedom and less buildup responsibilities.
There’s hope for Giroud at Arsenal. I think his struggles in the final third were down to adjustment to a new league and the team not yet adapting to a forced tactical shift. I’m still not convinced that this tactical change was intended when Giroud was bought, or if it was a forced outcome of RVP’s departure. If the rumors of Arsenal’s interest in Jovetic are true, it might suggest that Giroud was only ever a stopgap/plan B buy. Then again, buying a striker like Jovetic, or someone else who is a more “complete” forward, would mean Wenger getting out the check book. .. Does anyone want to put odds on the likelihood of that happening?

seems like Wenger was spot on when he said "Itll take Giroud 6 months to settle in"RealGunner wrote:Finally showing his Montpellier form. Good to see that. He is a complete striker, just took a bit too long to settle in.

He's been playing really well... But my problem though with Giroud still is that he lacks confidence with his feet. Hes SO confident with he head though, he never afraid to try and pound one in with his head at any chance he gets and is almost always accurate/on target with it. But when the ball comes to his feet it seems like he hesitates and chokes infront of goal far too often. He needs to be able to be fed the ball and just tap it in. Take a chill pill and trust his foot.

I don't think anyone is overrating how good he is or making him out to be something more than he is. Generally the consensus is that he is a good player with some conflicting issues on what his strengths are and what arsenals style of play is.

Truth is I rate Arsenal top 15 teams in the world but I don't rate Giroud in the top 40 strikers in the world. Shouldn't a team like Arsenal be looking for a much better striker?

sadly, i wish many arsenal fans think like you, but we are blinded by mediocrity, that we limit ourselves every year to the point that we now look and think like a midtable trash...
i am so fvcking pissed at the whole squad right now and more at that french twat wenger, our games seem to have an annoying pattern tádd that to shitplayers

Re: Olivier Giroud
Yes. I think he is more than good enough to be a squad player for us and offers something different from our usual striker. But yes, He is overachieving imo being our first choice striker.danyjr wrote:Truth is I rate Arsenal top 15 teams in the world but I don't rate Giroud in the top 40 strikers in the world. But right now he isn't the problem. He's playing well and if our defense wasnt so atrocious he and the rest of the attack would be getting the job done.
We need to think about upgrading at Lb, rb, cb, dm and even gk before we worry about giroud

Re: Olivier Giroud
His finishing wasn't all that impressive yesterday, though, Podolski alone set him up for 3 absolute sitters, and he missed all of them.
But he's not bad by any rate, especially considering how rare decent strikers are these days, I still think Giroud was an excellent buy.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Giroud is just starting to get his confidence going... the more confident he gets, the more clinical he'll become.
He works extremely hard and makes all the runs. He took the very difficult route into Ligue 1... he won't take anything for granted methinks.
