From my own understanding of events, Goal.com was getting rid of the forum and going with what you see at Goal.com currently. Not sure who exactly started the forum but I know RedO, possibly RG and others were involved. Hence a lot of the old posters ended up here.
Five years and I've yet to cross 10k. Sigh.

Goal.com hated the forums since members were very critical of the declining quality of their site. Their forums were much more active than GL, but here you get the feeling that you know everyone, kinda like a small village.

I agree. I'm not a fan of forums that have 100s of members.zizzle wrote:Goal.com hated the forums since members were very critical of the declining quality of their site. Their forums were much more active than GL, but here you get the feeling that you know everyone, kinda like a small village.

Didn't Red create this forum? I don't know who was the creator of the original Goal.com forum, but Morpheus was the moderator and peacekeeper back then.
Also, these forums never had 100s of active members. I never thought activity was an issue, even when it was at it's highest. The only problem with high activity, as I remember, was that there were tons of trolls trying to be "funnier" and/or more influentual than the other one, and so it was often a challenge to discuss football seriously anywhere. Granted, the trolling phenomenon was relatively new and oh so cool, back then.

Yeah I'm not sure what the longevity typically is for most forums but GL is pretty incredible in terms of the members longevity.
For the most part I still know a lot of the people who were there when I first came in. I almost lost GL, I was on vacation while they were shutting down the Goal.com forums and when I tried logging in they were gone, with no clues for me for how to find the new place (which I didn't know existed). Don't even recall how I found it but here I am.

I actually fumbled across this place looking for FIFA 14 career mode discussions. First discussion I read here was people bashing Pep for Bayern loss against Porto.

I think there was Lithium or something before goal.com but not entirely sure.
I lurked the goal.com forums for close to two years - I only really became fully active once GL was born though - mainly because I hated those funnier-than-thou trolls.

The trolling is not to bad on here tbh. Mostly Madrid and barca fans troll each other but it don't get out of hand and they both give as good as they get. On some of the forums I've been on the trolling by the Liverpool and Man U fans was just plain silly at times.

Lithium was the goal.com forums. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a short-lived forum inbetween Lithium and this one? Can't keep track

As for trolling, this forum barely has any of it. I know at least one of the current members used to be really obnoxious and annoying in the past, though he seems to have taken a complete U-turn in that respect. Not gonna mention his name

Re: who also feels that this forum is the highlight of his day ?
Yes there was. Lithium forum was the goal.com forum. As goal.com tried to move away from its forum and improve (
) their comment section they shifted their database to some shitty version (forget what it was called) which was short lived (around 10-12 months) as they were closing down shop on the forum completely and we moved as a community here. I think Morpheus helped with the transition, he didn't post though, left us after the first week.

Re: who also feels that this forum is the highlight of his day ?
lmfao found one of my post
Even as an Arsenal fan, I have to say Gerard and Torres are both better then Eduardo, but Comparing Gerrard with Eduardo is like comparing alonso with adebayor. Doesnt make sense.
Eduardo is the striker who will only miss 1 chance in 10, and will score the remaining 9, But thats not the only part of his game. He is a great passer of the ball and can also be used as a left winger and As a Central midfielder.
Red got a point, Eduardo is returning after a 1 whole season. Although he did play 4 matches.
But i think Eduardo will be as great as he was before, He might be even better. When he played against Cardiff and Burnley, He was playing like he never had an injury in his career. He set vela/bendtner alot of times and even managed to score goals.
Im not that worried about Eduardo, The bigger worry is Thomas "mozart" Rosicky.

Here are the last day threads from Lithium forum moving to vBulletin.
So we moved from Lithium in March 2010. Then moved here in June 2011
