Julio Cesar out, Handanovic in? Empty Julio Cesar out, Handanovic in?

Post by zizzle Thu Apr 05, 2012 5:16 pm

Manchester United are ready to offer Inter a fee of around €9m for goalkeeper Julio Cesar, says the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The custodian is one of the club’s highest earners given his €4.5m a season salary and he has a contract at San Siro until 2014.

The Nerazzurri are expected to try to lower the average age of the squad and the wage bill over the summer.

Cesar, now 32, has been linked with the Old Trafford outfit in the past and his future at San Siro is in doubt.

If the club do sell the Brazilian this summer, they have two options to replace him at the Stadio Meazza.

The first is to recall Emiliano Viviano from Palermo given that they have that option at the end of the season.

The other possibility is that they offer a half-share of the Italian to Udinese as part of a deal for Slovenian international Samir Handanovic.

I like Viviano and Handanovic but why are we trying to sell Cesar? Goalkeepers are not old at the age of 32... its like their prime years...

Julio Cesar was complete garbage last year, regardless he's back to being solid. He brings not only keeping skills but he's also a huge motivational speaker and leader for our squad, and like mentioned already he's not too old for a keeper. On top of this, why would manchester united want what would appear to the public as a mistake-prone but good goalkeeper, when they already have one but much younger? Why would we go for Handanovic when we have Viviano as a possibility?

well if u ask me handanovic would be an improvement to ceaser. He'd also cost us less in salaries and he'll have a much hiegh re-sale value once he gets the exposure he lacks now at udine

i was thinking about a younger goalkeeper, who can stay for long at inter, someone like Loris, Joe Hart ... but maybe their fee may be huge, and with the same salary rate, so viviano and handanovic may be good as well

i think vivano has potential to be Italy's #1 goalkeeper. Bring him back from Palermo next season and make him our #1 keeper.

honestly it's not a plausible move at all but I'd be all for Cesar out and Viviano in as long as it gave us a significant amount of money to the point where we'd be able to buy another player in addition to viviano.

This is nonsense considering how well De Gea is now performing, however if you can offload Julio Cesar then Handanovic would be a fantastic purchase. That being said, given the other positions within the squad that need to be strengthened, the money would likely be better spent elsewhere given that Viviano remains on the books, albeit in a co-ownership agreement.
