If Rooney is in, then it is not the best team you could field.

What do you think about that, Mole?

Official England squad:

Keepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Brom)
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jaigelka (Everton), John Stones (Everton), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Leighton Baines (Everton), Danny Rose (Spurs)
Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), James Milner (Man City), Andros Townsend (Spurs), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Man Utd), Rickie Lambert (Liverpool)

Hart

Jones - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines

Chamberlain - Henderson - Wilshere - Sterling

Rooney - Sturridge
Something like that?

What midfielder and forward would you play over Rooney there then?

The Rooney hate is beyond ridiculous, people acting like we would be better without him and he's some kind of problem.

He's still easily one of our best players and arguably our best and the way he was scapegoated at the Euros like it was his fault was beyond pathetic. ( again he was arguably our best player)

What a poverty team.

England needs a new golden generation tbh.

It's a midfield with potential, I'll admit, but not really good at present.

Also, 4-4-2 is too dated, imo. The lack of a proper DM is going to be problematic for England.

It's ok, Chelsea will save you lot, next season Chalobah will be a boss again, Baker will step it up and Bamford will be pushing for a place :coffee:

If Lewis Baker is as good as he is for the U19s then we really will have a great mid

But let's hope he moves away from Chelsea to fulfil his potential.

Mostly waiting for Chalobah tbh.

I am hoping Chalobah breaks into the Burnley squad. It's a long shot but if he does, we'll finally see what he is all about.
He should probably move from Chelsea, unless we actually put him ahead of the likes of Mikel and Ramires.

As for Baker, he went with us during pre-season, and Jose has been praising him. So he is this seasons Chalobah or McEachran Laughing

He'll be with the U-21's and training with the first team this season so probably will go on loan next season. Lots of potential, I am hoping he can for fill it.

England do have a few good youngsters, but they need them all to turn into WC players, like the golden Generation.

Butland, Chambers, Shaw, Stones, Dier, Flanagan, Chalobah, Wilshere, Baker, Barkley, Sterling, Ox, Lindgard. Lots of potential there, could be a killer side one day,

But at present, that England team looks average.

Can't wait until Rooney is binned. He's not needed anymore with the emergence of Sterling and Sturridge. Loftus-Cheek and Baker will save us hopefully.

The Three Lions - Page 27 Empty Have the FA destroyed England?

Post by Carrickature Wed Sep 03, 2014 5:50 pm

With Wembley only half full for the friendly against Norway it looks like the fans are finally turning their back on England. In my mind it's about time. It's become abundantly clear that the FA are only interested in fleecing the public under the England brand and have no interest in addressing the huge problems with the national game.

The below article is a tongue in cheek vlog that actually addresses quite a few issues. None more so than the fact that this cycle has been going for nearly 30 years now. Where England continue to underachieve and nothing gets done.

The only way to change that is if the public lose interest like they are and the cash cow runs dry.

Rooney brings tactical problems to the team. He can't play as a #10 ...and hence playing him, make it a flat 4-4-2 which is finished at the top level.

But yea, you deserve him. and you deserve him flopping in your FPL week in and out.

Sterling/Cahill are England's best players at the moment. Comfortably so.

Traded Rooney off myself, too hmm

Anyway, I'm still so very disappointed in England after their abysmal World Cup showing. A small, small chance to redeem themselves against the Swiss on Monday, but I'm not being too hopeful.

Rooney's been made the captain, so he'll obviously be the first name on the team sheet... Which can be a bit problematic at times. We'll see how it goes, but players like Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain... they just might click better if there wasn't a joggling guy like Rooney in the middle of it. His style just doesn't fit with the rest of the players.

Meh game. Only won because of a penalty. Saw some good things but still lots of work to be done.

4-4-2 in the first half, diamond for the last 30 minutes. Will be interesting to see which shape we go with against Switzerland... not that it matters much since they're going to batter us either way.

Moal you do understand we are slating Rooney because of the imbalance he brings. Not because he's not better than someone like Welbeck or J.Rod or Lambert.

If he gets called up he will start. Which is absolutely detrimental to team. Woy has no balls to bench Rooney to be Sturridge's back up. No manager will ever have those balls. Might as well just drop him. But he's been named captain so good bye any sort of progress Laughing

A win's a win, but beating this Norway only via a penalty... Oh well, it's just a friendly. But a big match on Monday against Switzerland. Lose and Roy has no ground to stand on, imo.

Makes the switzerland game even more harder.

Jones is an option, too. I suspect it'd be Milner, though. Think Hodgson would go for experience for such a tough game.

I'm guessing it'll be:

Hart

Jones - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines

Chamberlain - Milner - Wilshere - Sterling

Rooney - Welbeck

May be a slim chance that we play:

Hart
Stones Cahill Jagielka Baines
Jones
Chamberlain Wilshere
Sterling
Rooney Welbeck
