Re: The Three Lions
This is unbelievable.
Why wasn't Roy sacked after the WC? What more is there to see? Euro12, WC14. Same old shit from him
He isn't going to take us anywhere.
When England produces talents like Sterling, Oxlade, Barkley, Wilshere, Chambers and Sturridge. HE is there to manage us by putting welbeck upfront and Danny rose at LB

Re: The Three Lions
It can actually be partially explained by the fact that Shaw and Gibbs, who would surely be ahead of Rose in the pecking order, are both inured.
Delph doesn't get called up if Lallana, Barkley and Carrick aren't injured, either, though our lack of midfield depth is rather alarming.
Rooney will be captain (ffs), and they're expecting John Stones to be called up, too. So I'm guessing something like:
Keepers: Hart, Forster, Foster
Defenders: Johnson (ffs), Cahill, Jagielka, Chambers, Stones, Baines, Rose
Midfielders: Delph, Cleverley (ffs) Henderson, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Milner, Sterling
Strikers: Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Lambert
Plus some other scrubs.

Rose has done quite well, but yeah, even I didn't see that one ever happening. He is on amazing form right now though, and he started last season the same way prior to the toe injury and everything going to relative shit.
Also, WTF, why no Dier?

Delph was being scouted by Woy in Villa's last game. The commentators laughed when they saw him in the stands.

Jack Colback has been called up.
What do you think about that, Mole?
Official England squad:
Keepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Brom)
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jaigelka (Everton), John Stones (Everton), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Leighton Baines (Everton), Danny Rose (Spurs)
Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), James Milner (Man City), Andros Townsend (Spurs), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Man Utd), Rickie Lambert (Liverpool)

Re: The Three Lions
When was the last time England played a diamond midfield?
With Rooney clearly not suited to the wing and having some issues as a 10, aswell as Sterling's clear ability as a 10..to go along with a general lack of quality wingers. Plus fullbacks who want to push on.
It makes some sense to me, minus the lack of holding midfielder but that is a problem no matter what formation you want to play.

Re: The Three Lions
Not sure we have enough quality or depth in centre midfield to play a diamond regularly. Plus with Lallana, Barkley and Walcott to come back into the squad, it'd be tough to fit those guys in.
Rooney being captain means we're pretty much stuck with a 4-4-2 unless Sturridge is dropped.

Re: The Three Lions
Wilshere leftcenter, Henderson rightcenter, Sterling as a 10 and someone as a holding midfielder? No?
Could have Barkley coming in off the bench to play the 10, could have Walcott and Lallana coming in and then changing to a more common formation.

Re: The Three Lions
I must add that I am not actually a fan of the diamond 442. Because the same problems always exist the longer you play it.
The 10 is the only true form of creativity in the side and once you stamp it out there is nothing else. No wingers to play in the 1 v 1 and if you invite your fullbacks forward to the point of usefulness they cost you defensively because they will always leave spaces trying to cover around 30% more distance every time.

ofc not lol
I was merely thinking out loud the last time I seen it with England. And the current squad might actually be the first time I remember actually having the pieces for it.

Re: The Three Lions
Just realised Barry is not in the England squad. I know he's old now but given he's actually a holding player and better than Delph and Colback, you'd think he'd get a call up.
Him and Carrick are pretty much the only holding players we have of a decent standard. Beyond them you've got the likes of Huddlstone and Livermore.

There is one plus side to this Colback thing.
The Mackems are not taking it well at all

Re: The Three Lions
England team to start v Norway: Hart; Stones, Jones, Cahill, Baines; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Wilshere, Sterling; Rooney, Sturridge
-------------------------Hart----------------------------
Stones--------Jones------------Cahill--------------Baines
------------------Wilshere----Henderson----------------
Sterling-------------------Rooney----------------Oxlade
----------------------Sturridge-------------------------
It's norway so the midfield will work. But hope Roy doesn't think Rooney is going to be a part of the midfield. It will end up as a 4-2-2-2 instead.

Hart
Jones - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines
Chamberlain - Henderson - Wilshere - Sterling
Rooney - Sturridge
I was only one player off, then.
Pretty much the best team we can put out in the circumstances.
