Delighted Lampard can no longer get the blame for Gerrard's failures. For years and years he's been England's scapegoat but since he semi-retired 4 years ago after the 2010 WC we've been utter shit in our last two tournaments.

Didn't play at the EURO's and this WC, so he has no fault whatsoever in us being utterly embarrassed in both tournaments.

Otherwise I think their were outside influences on england team selection which include media and some famous guys in the game.

I still think england would have reached the semi final stages if their was a proper manager who is bold enough to do what he thinks is right and not get influenced by media etc

So the Liverpool contingent and the Man Utd contingent didn't perform.

I need to point out that even in pre world cup friendly england were shit. An analysis of numbers suggests wilshere would have been much better influence on team.

LOL!!!

The fact that some people are called haters for pointing out real world applications as to why England are a joke as a national team is quite funny yet those same people who call other haters sit here and see nothing wrong with this post.

I may be wrong on this one but is this poster not the guy who compared Wilshere to Messi?

I mean in this thread another England fan compared Wilshere to Riquelme so I don't know why I' surprised at this post.

But I'm a hater and these people are reasonable. That makes sense, the guy who has been completely correct from start to finish is just hating and had it been for a different manager and starting Jack Wilshere England would be one of the 4 best teams in this tournament.

I mean when are some of you going to join the real world?

Wilshere has sucked for years now. He was awful when brought on in the Italy game and had he been 1000% healthy he would have made no difference in the outcome of this tournament or any tournament moving forward.

The overrating of this individual player has reached heights that frankly are un freaking believable.

I mean the blind homerism in this post is just hilarious.

"So the Liverpool contingent and the Man Utd contingent didn't perform. "

Uh Rooney played well and the other players who made any contribution what so ever were Glen Johnson (Assist) and Sturridge (goal) not to mention Sterling for being 19 years old was decent.

But according to this poster had Walcott and Wilshere been out there (Gee I wonder what team he supports) then England would have been one of the top 4 teams in the tournament.

Oh yea and a coach who didn't bow down to media pressure even though in the Italy game the fans and media were largely happy with the team selection and the result of the game.

It's unreal that I'm still shocked at what people will post on this board.

Is it premature to say that Rooney should announce retirement from England along with Gerrard,Lampard and Lambert?

The latter 3 were(maybe not Lambert) were always going to retire anyways because I can't see a 37 year old Gerrard playing much in the PL nevermind Euros. But Rooney should consider it as well because he has nothing to give to England anymore.

Sturridge is most likely going to be the English top scorer in the PL for the next few years and no manager will drop him from the team which means Rooney WILL play with him because he is Rooney and dropping him is a crime.

He still is a great player obviously but as long as he keep playing as a 10 for England, it is not going to work in any tournament. Specially not with our poor defence and midfield.

There's talk of Gerrard retiring after this World Cup and I expect he will since this World Cup is probably his last major international tournament. Lampard, likewise, I can see doing the same. Lambert will be 34 but may well keep himself available since he's only had a few caps.

Rooney, though, could play in Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup, so he definitely wouldn't be considering international retirement. The only way he would is if the manager told him categorically he's no longer in his plans, but that's just not going to happen.

Well, you obviously need a coach for the NT who is strong enough to ignore the media and the pressure of the fans and the commercial interests of the clubs when doing his team selection. As long as the coach fields the players that are expected from him and not the ones that would work best, England will go nowhere.

scratch Again.. giving Roy grief for selecting one of our best player ..

It's a good thing that we dont hyave a manager that gives in to GL pressure, otherwise our squad would be comprised of championship players who arent "over-rated".

England would be helped if some of their players played in leagues where the footbal played is more similar to the football played in international competitions. The English players are not bad players at all, that Lallana kid has all the technique of continental players, for example.

Anyway as I said before, England need a new manager. What Hodgson's shown so far tactically has been inadequate.

A foreign attacking manager is what's needed. Someone who can improve the technical quality of the players, instill a winning mentality and improve big game performances. With all the experienced players retiring, the pressure will be off the team and hopefully England can now adopt a more underdog mentality/approach with a more youthful side.

Tactically what I'd like to see is a high pressing and quick counter-attacking style. Mainly to make use of the pace. Walcott/Ox, Sturridge and Sterling. Rooney should be dropped and Sturridge should definitely be the starting striker.

--------------------------Sturridge
-----Sterling-----Barkley/Lallana/Ox/Sterling----Walcott/Ox
----------------------Wilshere-----DM

In terms of Wilshere, he's not one of those players who dictates games. He's a good dribbler and he's agile, but yeh... But it doesn't matter because he's still talented imo.

Also replace Baines with one of Gibbs/Shaw and also look to replace Jagielka/Johnson if someone better is available.

Hart or Cahill as the new captain.

someone save Micah ffs. He's been locked away at Al-Deathstar for way too long.

Reports are saying City plan on forcing Richards and Milner to see out the remaining 12 months of their contracts. silent

At the Euros I think England could have a pretty strong, rejeuvenated squad that will see young players leading the way and the old guard on the way out.

Hart
Chambers - Caulker/Smalling - Cahill - Shaw
Henderson - Wilshere
Sterling - Barkley - Oxlade
Sturridge

If managed properly I think a squad like this could do very well in France.

Theo produces more than any of these chumps that are being hailed as new crop of attackers. But he will never get picked.

Its their loss, and our gain. Look at it that way.

Pretty big call to say Walcott will have to make way for both Barkley and the Ox..

You're assuming both players develop a lot over a two year period there.

Touch wood Walcott stays injury free over the next couple of seasons and I can see him having a successful Euros.

Laughing Sterling is already better than Walcott at 19 years old. At 21 he'll probably be 10 times the player.

Gerrard has retired from the national team.

Probably the right decision, but England don't really have a player to replace his role in the team.
