Who would you get as a replacement for Xavi?

banega, but I think he needs some more refinement, tends to lose the ball sometimes. However, he will be cheap(well cheaper than cesc)

I always thought I was alone in this logic ! I can totally see Messi playing CM when he grows older and he loses his pace. By then his vision, which is already phenomenal, would be unsurpassed as well as his reading of the game. Even now he pulls out xavi-esque passes, but in time he can overshadow xavi into oblivion. Great players like him adapt to the limits/barriers of their physicality and the needs of their team and so, I'd totally vouch for Messi as a CM when he's 28 or 29+.

Just imagine the sumptuous assists..and the occasional screamers from outside the box. This is all provided he loses his pace ofcourse, which is almost inevitable

I think centermid is too deep.

He will always be able to dribble people, always. He can drop back to playing a legit 10 with a legit 9 in front of him. But CM is too far back I feel.

Fabregas.

Perhaps we don't need any as between them Thiago and Afellay can cover if he is ever absent next season. If we must buy then look for a cheap option which rules out Fabregas and Modric. Schweinsteiger would be impossible to get from Bayern. So we are left with Banega like you all are suggesting but let's get to know his actual price first. His stock could rise after Copa America.

Banega is probably worth about 25m right now, Valencia know his talents and he's a very important asset to them, they won't let him go cheaply
